Your engine is an LS1, and possibly has an LS6 intake manifold and/or an LS6 block.

LS6 intake manifold from the factory says 12561184 on the driver side.
LS6 engine block says 12561168 on the rear of the driver side of block.

You do have an ls6 intake on your car stock, but you don't have ls6 heads or any of that. You might have an ls6 block, but not an actual ls6

They started phasing the LS1 blocks out late in 4th gen production. I believe a few 01s and about 25% of 02s got the LS6 block. Cars could also have it if they had an engine replaced under warranty. Heads stayed the same, but the blocks themselves could be either or in the last 2 years. To know for sure check the block number on the rear driver side of the block. You would need a mirror to see it.

I am not so sure it was a phasing out issue. The LS1 went well into production till 2004 I believe. I think it could have been just supply Vs demand thing.
