Default Trex vs MS4 and 3

im having trouble deciding on which cam to use, of course i want the most power possible and all that good stuff but which is best for what i have?

2001 ls1 bottom end with fly cut pistons
853 heads, unmilled
Headers, intake, springs, p-rods
3500 stall a4
3.42 10 bolt rear at the moment, hasn't broken yet.
Single cutout but i want duals right after the headers if the tune will allow.

Your converter is too small for any 3 of those.. I would move to a 4k stall or get a smaller cam to better match your converter.

not a DD but i still want to take it out on a nice day or saturday night...
my tuner is good, he had a Trex in the bottem end that im reffering to (thats why pistons are flycut)
4.10 i would probably get with a 9" but if my good ole 10bolt sticks togethere i would do a 3.73

The more lope the better for my kind of taste, I like that old school sound... the cam i have is 224/230 .580/.588 114 and its decent but i dont spray or boost so its not what i want for N/A

If you move up to a 4000 I personally would choose an ms4. My white car had one and it performed very well and was nice driving.
If you want the best bang and no power adder I would go 4400 on the converter.

Well, they are all decent grinds, i have the Trex and love it, but i am carbed with a 6.o, so i could not say what all i would do with a LS1 and automatic.

I had the trex on my 4000 stalled ls1 with a th350. With a 4.10 gear it would be a road rocket.

dont listen to lemons hes a retart. If it were me i would go with a 4400 converter and the trex cam since your pistons are already flycut, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put in some ARP rodbolts either to help high RPM reliability.

pretty much any of those cams will work well to make good power up past 3krpm's
but you will need a converter to get the most out of it...
I'm a big fan of the TCI converters...super street fighter would be great for any of those cams...roughly a 4000 stall with your motor.
I'v done a daily driver t-rex...and I tune them for other people all the time...
you dont need any other mods to make it work...but it is highly advised as it will help out to have a higher rear gear and a bigger stall

the MS3 would yield the best power and feel for street use without changing anything else...but like I said.. a little bigger stall and you will have more fun with the MS4 or Trex

yes, 853 heads...my car is a 99 and i spun a bearing last week and i have a 2001 bottom end that a buddy has that he will sell, with my old block as a little credit. ($900 for his with my trade). i have an edge converter at the moment 3450 to be exact, it was built for my old cam (224/230 ,580/.588 114) and specs, but apparently i can ship it back and get it reworked to whatever, and it does have the nitrous parts in the converter also.

Also does anyone know how much i can mill the 853 heads before i have clearance issues.

Second i have researched that the MS4 would be easier on the valve train than the Trex and its high ramp rates.

milling 853's = none for a trex.. it barely fits as it is..
neither one is going to be noticeably less stressful on your valvetrain.. either way you will need to change your valvesprings every 10k~15k miles...less if you use singles(which I highly recommend against)

why the 233/239? i have also been told that a 228R would be good for my current setup...

I will spray if i have to but my goal is to not have to do that to put up some good numbers

all the cams listed DO NOT require fly cutting the pistons. Either one will work in stock bottom end motors with unmilled heads. It all depends on what your goals are with the car. You can dd all those cams without a prob, and a 3500 would be fine for now. The bigger the better, esp with the ms4 and trex, but hell it is not at all necessary...Do some research, and then some more research, because had you just went off what SOME of these guys sd you might have spent more $$$ than you really needed too.. Another thing is call the cust serv of the manufactures, they are really helpful.....BTW I have the MS4 and I love it....
