Looks great Tony. Looks like I'll be flying out to Cali soon to help you tune it in the car.

You can tag along, but I think you're too tall to fit in the Corvette, LOL.

Looks great Tony! If the worst thing we have to deal with in the LSX world is an "ugly" setup, so be it. At least we don't have to deal with 6' long timing chains and enormous long blocks that alot of the OHC guys deal with such as Ford's 4V mod. motors and the Coyotee.

I'm wondering how those running rectangle ports will react to to all this...

Did I miss what the block is? I thought I noticed 6.0 on the side of it so I assume a dry sleeved deal?

Nice build, but the pistons strike me as odd. I'm kind of curious as to why you would need a dome in a 454ci "street" combo. Same with the gas ports. Did you go with a 4.185" x 4.125" combo?

Its actually a small dome with very large reliefs.....basically it nets you negative 3 cc's like a perfect flat top with valve reliefs typically would (but you have deeper larger reliefs with this piston design). Basically I took a Wiseco K462X185 which is a pretty neat shelf piston with a GFx ring pack and I spec'ed it exactly how I wanted the ring grooves cut to work with the slightly thinner ring pack Im running. I spec'ed the groove width and depth etc. but kept the dome profile exactly the same as that shelf Wiseco I just mentioned. I prefer the dome/deep valve relief design to a flat top for numerous reasons...

Gas ports....yep....not conventional for a "street" motor but I'm of the opinion that the ring material I selected and the ductile iron sleeve (much stouter and more durable than a factory gray cast sleeve) will hold up just fine in the 10,000 miles I would be lucky to drive this car before yanking the engine and building something else (that's three years of driving for me....LOL). This was one of those moves that I was willing to try on my own build....and with the lighter weight ring package I selected one I feel will work out well in contributing a little extra power to the bottom line. This motor will make more than an average build that looks the same quickly on paper because I went after all the nickel and dimes....at the end of the day they add up and you have an extra 50 cents in your pocket and a car that runs a few tenth quicker than it ought to.

Someone asked about the block.....yes....its a 6.0 liter aluminum LS2 block that I had Steve at R&D install Darton dry sleeves into. He did a great job of course....this guy is simply the source for work like that. And the combination is in fact a 4.185 bore X 4.125 stroke. The sleeve is longer than a stock length sleeve better supporting the piston at the bottom of the bore (less piston rock in spite of the extra stroke). In fact my 4.125 stroke hangs the pistons less out the hole than a stock LS2/LS3 block with a 4" arm....and thats bonus IMO.

What else.....coils.....yep....they are MSD's, not painted OEM coils.....the size gives them away. I had to do alot of grinding and modifying on the factory coil brackets to get these to fit. I was under the impression these were a bolt on but truthfully I never read the instructions....LOL Anyway, they look great and might potentially be worth a few ponies as well at this level....if I have some time I may back to back them against my stock coils.

-Tony

PS....With my 75 cc heads and an .040 gasket this combo nets exactly 11.75 to 1.....aggressive for a 91 octane build but I suspect with the overlap and the cam installed position I will likely settle on, I may have a low enough DCR to run 91 all day long (92 or 93 octane would be a no brainer here). Worst case if I get a little knock retard I may opt for a Snow Performance N/A methanol injection kit, but I really feel I'm going to pull this off on straight 91 octane. Once again for a customer I would probably opt for something slightly more conservative (not much....like 11.5 - 11.6!)

Glad to see you finally get this together. The few times we talked you told me about your 383. I'm sure this thread will get a lot of attention. Already a lot of good people in here.

Question: was the throttle body for mock-up purposes, or are you converting to a cable driven TB for your vette?

Care to elaborate? Looking into Ricardos "fuel bomb" tests and the recent trends in the EMC, I would have thought a smaller chamber with a flat top or even dished piston would be more ideal. I'm not trying to critic your build, I just like to pick the brains of the more knowledgeable and experienced people on here.
