Compression Test or Leak Down Test What does this test know about your motor? Does it test if your motor is toast (BROKE) or still alive but need a little adjustment or something.I would like a complete rundown or list of thing that a compression test and leak down test will found out about your motor. Can either one of test can determine if theirs a crack in the block because of no compression or something in the motor? I don't know.
They can tell you if the rings are bad. They can test for leaking valves or bad valve seats. You can check for broken pistons, bad head gasket, etc. Basically any kind of LEAK. It won't tell you the exact problem just that you have one.
What are the symptons of your engine?
With a compression test you can compare all the cyl. readings and look at the lowest reading (s) and go from there. Generaly your checking ring seal to the bore of the block. With a leak down test your looking for valve train problems. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...ter/index.html
