Default Quick Head gasket question

I just wanted to verify something.

I've noticed a few GM sources calling for different head gaskets between '97-01 (GM# 12498543) and '02 and up (GM# 12498544) heads.

I've just assumed that the newer style gasket is simply an improvement over the older style and you can run the newer gaskets on a '00 head casting.

The reason I ask is because I actually ended up with two different head casings on my ported heads (one is an '02 and the other is a '00). They were ran against the same CNC program (so the internals are the same), but they look slightly different externally.

The sealing surfaces look the same to me, so I can't imagine there being a need for different gaskets, but I figured I better ask.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well go to SDPC web they have a write up about this and I think is just 97-99. I think you are ok, but I would double check because it would be a PITA to have to do it twice! There is a half moon shape in the sealing surfaceand I think it causes a coolant leak if you use the wrong gasket on the older heads. Look on there web page or call them. I am sure there are other sponcers that can answer this also. It is just where I read/herd about it.

Thanks for the reply, I just did a search and found the answer I was looking for.

Duh! Sorry for posting without doing the search first.

My heads do not have the notch, so I am good with the mls gaskets.
