Just run it....hotrod makes 1200 hp.....and your worried about the rod strenght?

You d probably need new pistons to, since the pins are different. Not a bad engine at all, just out of date compared to how most are built now. Which in turn makes it more diff to "rebuild".

Chances are you'll need that $1,200 for something else somewhere down the road anyway.

Why would I need new pistons? I can just buy the rods to match the pistons.
The pistons are diamond pistons also.

Stock rods use a different piston pin size than most of the off the shelf forged pistons and rods accept. I think Eagle makes rods for both size pins so just verify before you buy.

Well if you do have the .943 pin, I have a few sets of 6.100 rods real cheap on our racingjunk store.

sorry to hear about that! I had a similar issue happen to me, but I was the other guy. I was selling my car and ON THE WAY TO THE BUYER the car spun a rod bearing on me. I towed it home and tore it down. The buyer came up and bought it anyways knowing I'd put it back together. Well a local forum guy offered me his 40k mile rebuilt shortblock and after clearing it with the new owner I went and got it. I spent 43 hours putting that car back together in 5 days (on top of working my regular job) and got it finished up just in time for the new owner to drive her home. Granted I didn't get to test drive it or nothing after I finished the build...but she seemed to be running pretty good. Well 5 days later the new owner called me saying there was a knocking sound and changed the oil to find metal chunks come with it and shavings on the plug. Meanwhile I'm tied up trying to buy a house so financially there was nothing I could do to help him. I mean I spent $1,300 of the money he gave me for the car just getting it back and running. NTM I did a bunch of other detailed stuff to really make the thing look and run good for him like valve stem seals, which I'm glad I did cause I found a broken inner spring...so that also came outta my pocket. I went back to the guy I bought the motor from and explained everything and asked for some help (basically my money back which I'd give to the new owner). He said he only promised it would start and have oil pressure, and wouldn't help out at all. The new owner didn't hold me responsible as it wasn't my fault, but it's just a really sucky situation and I feel horrible. I told him I'd come down to his place and give him my time pulling the old and installing the new one if he wanted. It was the least I could do.

In the end, I've realized that sometimes crappy things happen to good people.

I just got screwed by a seller myself. Bought a 98 Z with a bad master cylinder. Turns out the freeze plug got knocked out during a cam install. Oil spraying out of the hole ruined the clutch. Needs the oil pan dropped to find the freeze plug. Transmission was put together without all the parts inside it. Went from just needs hydraulics to $2000 worth of transmission work.

Funny part about this though he sent me the motor with a truck pan and kept his stocker which we agreed upon what im getting at is what guy with a hobby of building cars and motors pulls off a oil pan and doesnt just out of curiousity and to love for motors look inside the bad boy lol I know I have a prolly will everytime even if ive seen it a million times its still awesome to look at.
