Default Biggest cam on A4 w/ out converter?

So what is the biggest cam you can run on an A4,with out forking over $700+ on a converter? I already have springs (918's), fully ported heads, just want to get some input.

If I did have to fork over the money to get a good cam, what are the best deals, and where to find them. Thanks a lot.....Chris

I could not agree more. Any cam that is worth having will require a T/C to get the best performace out of it.

I agree, T/C is a must for A4 cars and you will not regrate it.
T/C 1st then CAM

You'll get a better improvement doing the 'verter first rather than just doing the cam and no converter.

Sorry, but I've got to agree with the other guys. A lot of people underestimate how fun a high stall TC really is. Do it first, trust us, you won't regret it!!

Converters start at $450. I should have been the first mod. The bang for the buck is there.More than headers, cam etc.

You can get a midwest converter for $450 or so. Deffinatly do that before the cam.

One more for the converter. Absoluety the first mod to do on an A4. As dheck mentioned go with midwest. I'm running one and have had no problems since the install.

Again definetly converter first. That was a big mistake by me. My cam is pretty tiny and still sometimes it just wants to quit when you are cruising around and come to a stop. That and I have to wait about 10 - 15 mins in the morning before I can even drive it or I put her into drive and it usually just dies.

I had the tr 224/112 cam with out a stall and took it out and put the stall in (to run ss/a) and I think its a lot better having a stall. Get a stall first.

Since you need to tune a cam, if you like any sort of drivability, do the verter/cam all at once then get a good tune, then you wont have to deal with surging/dying/cold start/warm restart issues, and the loss of low end torque from the cam will require shift point tuning etc.

I can't imagine how lame it would be to have my 224 cam in, without a verter, the stock shift extensions are so low its hideous.

my cam made its majority over 5400rpm.. 5400-6600 (shift)

do the converter first...the are about the same price as a cam and would give you probably 3-4 tenths gain over a car w/ cam but no vert.

Thanks for all the info! Looks like I will be getting a T/c this comming spring. What stall would I need if I went with a 231/237 112 lsa? I have heard this cam in a few F-bodys, and sounds wicked as hell. Plus I think It would flow well with ported heads.

One more thing..what is a good price for the install a on T/C. My old man rebuilds tranys for a liven but was thinking about tipping one of the R&R guys to pull it out (trans), and put it back in. Thanks for all your help!

For a cam as big as the 231/237 i would go for something at least a 4000 stall, most likely a 4400. You can stay a little smaller than that if you plan to spray the car tough.

I agree 1000%, do it once and do it right with a properly sized converter, 4000 or 4400 stall and your baby will be transformed into a tire shredding BEAST, when coupled with that great TSP cam!!!
