Where does it say that? It doesnt say anything about where each dot should be, only what position the crank sprocket key should be facing. The pic doesnt specifically represent anything other than the crank at cyls 1 & 6 are at TDC.

Look at the picture ... see the dot at 12 o'clock on both sprockets? Also, the crank key is at the 1:30 o'clock position as the text describes. According to the text and diagram, this is the position of the cam and crankshaft when Cyl #1 is at TDC on the compression stroke.

The crank key would be in that same exact position if you spun the crank 360 degrees to put the #6 cyl at TDC compression so that says nothing. Pictures are sometimes generic in SI.

If you spun the crank 360 degrees (1 revolution), then Cyl #1 would be right back on TDC, not Cyl #6. How do you figure Cyl #6 gets to TDC if the crank is spun 360 from Cyl #1 on TDC?

And if you then put both the crank and cam sprocket with the dot at 12 o'clock as the pictures shows in the Service Manual, then the cam & valves will be in time with the pistons just like the manual says they should be.

Ok I did a search & just like the old school chevy V8s when the timing chain marks are dot to dot #1 cyl is on the exhaust stroke. Both marks facing up & its on compression so I stand corrected.
