Cant get my oil pan down enough for pickup tube
How do i get my oil pan far enough down so i can safely take the bolt out of the pickup tube for the oil pump? i need to change my oil pump and ive taken all of the bolts out of the pan except the back two but they are pretty loose. I even took the bolts out of the bellhousing that go into the pan. It seems like the pan is hitting on the k member, and there is no way i can get that bolt of that pickup tube, let alone put one back on afterward. Please help!

to pull the oil pan you are going to have to unbolt your engine mounts and either pick up the engine a few inches or lower your k-member a few inches. is sucks i have done it..

The front of the pan only drops about 1/2" or 3/4" at the most before it hits the K-member. Stuff a couple rags down in the pan in case you drop the pick-up tube bolt, which you probably will. Just take your time & you'll get it out. Just don't forget to take the rags out!!!!

ok ive got the pump out, but it looks fine. do i have to drop the pan to examine the screen where i believe there could be residue? or will the pump not really look bad when it goes out? oh, and i loosened the 10mm pickup tube bolt with a box end, non ratcheting wrench, then loosened it with my fingers by putting them through the side of the pump and raching back, then once i got it pretty loose, i stuck a really thin pen magnet into it and took it out. just in case anyone is as frustrated as i just was.

I think id try to push some compressed air through the tube down into the pan and drain it. youll have to figure out how to seal it. If you feel like you didnt get it all then youll have to drop the pan. the tube is bolted up to the underside of the block

i wrapped the bolt towards the head, in a wire of solder, then held it in place with a pen magnet, and used a box end to tigthen it down, i would say about 10 degrees per turn. how do i know if i pinched my o ring? is there any way i can make sure i didnt, if i loosen the pickup tube bolt and the oil pump bolts? not to take pickup tube all the way out again, though. that is something i hope never in my life to do again. i put some oil on the o ring as i primed the pump before i put it on. is that enough?
