I've heard of people hitting the K&N filter because of the nutted end. I remember the thread, it was the K&N nut. This is not to say it can't happen with a smoothie truck filter. I know it didn't happen to me and I certainly bottomed out my car a good handful of times.

Yes zee, the XtraGuard is a somewhat decent filter but at it's price, a tiny bit more gets you the M1 extended filter which is a better filter. And honestly, I've never seen a Fram XtraGuard on any store shelf. Because of how Fram advertises their filters and shovels crap onto non-technical regular consumers, I wouldn't trust their oil filters as far as I could throw it.

There's good reason Cummins filtration is specified by John Deer, Komatsu, International, Ford, Kubota, Detroit Diesel, Catapiller and Mack.

Find out your tolerances and go from there. I personally am sticking to M1, ive had issues whenever I use something else. And because its stupid cheap, 25 plus tax for a 5 qt jug at wal mart, another 7 bucks for the extra quart, and 13 bucks for a M1 filter. And I get a $15 dollar rebate so i pay under 30 for oil and filter in whatever viscosity I want minus 0W 40

Hey ZeeO sorry for the delayed response. I can't seem to find the official exact specifications on the LF16104 but a very similar filter, the LF16035 has the following numbers:
  • 30 microns at 100% efficiency
  • 10 microns at 60% efficiency
  • Flow rate of 8.72 GPM
  • Maximum Working Pressure of 125 PSI
I also found this which makes for some short but good reading:

Looks like a pretty good filter. I'm using the PureOne PL4006 on my LS6 now after seeing the actual bench test data from Purolator. I linked the info in post #11 of this thread. Pretty small pressure drop too, which is a good thing on the LS1/LS6 since the bypass valve is in the block and I believe set to around 8 psi.

Interesting data on the Pure One. However, I'm wondering how much it really filters. It looks pretty good dissected on youtube.

I like the Fleetguard filters for the glass fiber fluff behind the element. Mission critical applications exclusively use Fleetguard.

The PureOne efficiency if rated at 99.9% @ 20 microns per latest IOS test standard. Lots of threads on BITOG talking about filter efficiency, etc.
