As for the rest of the combo, it has a Comp XFI 466 cam with 1.6 Comp rockers, BBK headers and off-road Y pipe with a MagnaFlow cat back and a mail order tune by PCMforless.

Here's a little background about me. I've been building and driving old school street rods, muscle cars for over 30 years. I ran an automotive machine shop for almost 12 years and owned a classic car restoration shop for 9 years.
Give me an engine with a carb on top, and I'm good to go. I have been in a steep learning curve lately with the Outlaw 8.5 car since it has a turbo and fuel injection.

I'm here to learn and I listen to all opinions, observe the results from testing and make an educated decision.
You have to get the car tuned for the stall. Mine did this in my current ls car and my lt1 z28 with a stall before I got it tuned for the stall.

222/224 cam with 3000 converter here. Runs 11.70s @ 115. Drives nice and I would not hesitate to run this cam with a 2500 or 2800 converter. The torque is excellent. It has power everywhere. I think there is one for sale in the part for sale section right now. There is also the 220 Texas Speed cam that I bet would work great with your existing combo too. Come on guys, not everyone is John Force.

Thanks speed. I looked at the 220 on texas site. I like the looks of that cam.

sweet, as for having a tune done to resolve the high stall issue on OBD1 cars, at the time I had it there didn't seem to be a reliable way of getting rid of the issue. I am also on CamaroZ28.com and there were numerous threads on there with different tuners trying to figure out a fix. I just replaced it with a lower stall unit. Viola, problem solved.

P.S. Nice Skylark speed.

BTW, check out my garage. I posted pics of my carbed hot rod.

I ran a Vigilante 3200 with a TSP TV2 and it was a good street convertor and I cut some 1.67s with it at the strip. So it ought to be great with with their 228 cam. Later I went bigger on the cam and had to change out the convertor because the Vigilante dropped to much rpm between gear changes. I got a Yank PT4000 and its great around town and really shines at the strip. Both are good for their applications. Both are not cheap. Give Yank a call and ask them what they would recommend.

i think im going with a 3200 9.5" converter and a 228 r cam or similar.Id like to buy a yank but i think the revmax on ebay will do for now.I know you get what you pay for but i dont wanna spend big money on a converter for a used transmission.
What kind of power will a lt,ory, catback, lid ,228r with 3200 stall make? What about 1/4?Im sure this is a tried and true combo, would i be better off with a 224 or go with the 228,I really only wanted a 2800 stall but 3200 would be better with the 228 cam

Thanks. I'll give Lane at PTC a call and see what he thinks. We have a PTC converter in the Outlaw car.

Yep, that's the one. He built us a real nice converter that works very well with our turbo setup.
