Default Can I drive my car to the shop before doing valve springs?

Well I had a broken head bolt in my block from when I put on my 243s, so I finally fixed that. While the drivers side head was off I did the springs and installed a eps cam. The passenger side head wasn't off and I didn't have the tools to do the springs so I figured I'd let my tuning shop do that. My question is can I drive my car to the shop on stock ls2 springs or am I risking catastrophe?

Ya.. You're probably right. I'd honestly do them myself if I had a good valve spring compressor. I went thru two cheap ones on the other head before dropping the cash on a big one that works only with the heads off.

If you are going to have your performance shop install the passenger side valve springs it is not worth the risk of breaking something. Either buy the proper tools and do it yourself or have it towed to the shop thats the only way I would do it.

Thanks! I just ordered the compressor and the compressed air thing for the spark plug hole.

Still kind of nervous about changing them in the engine... but it's time I give it a try.

It's pretty easy to do ... do a search as there are plenty of DIY tutorials on how to swap springs with the heads on.

Bring the piston up anyway as a backup to the compressed air method.

No clue... it was an ARP too! It broke all the way at the bottom too, probably about an inch of the bolt in the block. I thru out the whole set of ARP's on that side and replaced them with stockers. I ordered studs, but they are on back order for a few weeks and I didn't have time to waste.

With that said, getting the head bolt out isn't impossible, just need to drill it and use an easy-out, like any other broken bolt.

For what its worth,,, thats valve spring compressor kit works like a charm but if its the proform (i think thats the brand i bought) you might want to pick up an extra bolt and some extra washers at the hardware store (bolt is cheap and soft, burs easily)

The spring compressor tool I got from SpeedInc worked great. Just put some grease on the main bolt to keep the threads lubed up and they will do fine.
