Colonel - I saw your car outside MTI last Spring. What happened to the 427 they were building for you? Are you racing it now?
As for the law suit, sounds like desparate plaintiff's attorneys to me.

i dont want money. i want to keep my oil i buy in there for 3000 miles and a quite engine. spending 30000 for a car(tax included) i think it should be quite. im far from sue happy, but just to have them check my oil consumption i got to pay 75 bucks for an oil change? thats bs!

guys, we have aluminum engines, aluminum expands quite a bit when hot. gm designed the engines to work best at operating temerature, not immediate startup. thats why(i think)when the engine warms up, it goes away. if it doesnt go away, THEN you have a problem.
and for the record, mine sounds like a diesel too untill i start driving around but i dont burn a drop if oil, i ran 13.18@104 with a bone stock A4 and the only thing i have problems with is the rear.

I've dealt with this problem for years on my 99Z28. Took it to a local dealership in Dallas to a service rep that I trust (good buddies) and he didn't like the noise, but GM had his hands tied on what he could do at the time. I pursued it briefly, and at every attempt I was shot down with statements of "that's normal" and "your oil consumption is still within spec"
A few months after I gave up, GM released the new coated pistons and re-designed rings as a TSB for this issue, and when I went back to try and have this done, they refused the warranty work due to the mods on the car.
over the years, the cold-knock had gotten worse and to the point I could still hear it after a good warm-up in the Texas heat (although it was quieter once warm). I also tried every oil combination under the sun, all the way up to running some 20-50 mixed with 10-30 to help with the knock an the consumption. It was all to no avail, and just prior to my recent rebuild, I was putting in 6 quarts and pulling out 4 after 3000 miles. Upon teardown, I saw the scuffing on the piston skirts, and on the cylinder walls, both on the upstroke side (most prominent) and on the downstroke.
So, I dealt with the problem daily, and much to my embarresment whenever I had to start the motor cold at GTG's and such, and in the end got fed up with it altogether and opted to do a rebuild on my own bill, to find that there was much more wear on the cylinders and pistons than should have been for only 50k miles of use.
I'm glad to finally see something like this come around, as it's been 5 years to long already that a LARGE number of us have been shouting abut the problem to deaf ears. GM has had their chance to address what is apparently a poor quality control issue, so our last chance as consumers to get the product that we paid for and never received is to use the court system. GM may lose money and a little face over this, but in all honesty they've had 5 years to do something about this problem and have ignored it whenever possible and pushed the consumer around till most (like myself) were fed up enough to do something about it themselves (and on their own time and from their own pocketbook)

Hell, I couldn't even tell you if my car had pistonslap between the heads w/ duals springs, cam, headers, duals, and all the other **** I’ve done to it. But I never had it when I was stock, or close to stock anyway. Honestly, I don’t worry about it cause I know I’m gonna upgrade the entire engine in the future.

GM made good with me by offering me a 84 month, 70,000 mile premium warranty...with no deductible. This warranty pretty much covers the whole car including brakes! Of course, I still have to live with the constant noise but this makes it somewhat more bearable.
