Default HP Stock LS1 Crank Can Handle?

Has anyone here broke a stock LS1 crank and if so what power were you making and what were you doing when it happened?

High boost from forced induction, lots of spray?

I heard it can handle nearly 1000 HP, is this true and how safe will it be if I install forged pistons and rods and boost the motor from turbo around 15lbs or more? Cranks are a little spendy and dont wanna buy one if dont need to but also dont wanna ruin a motor for not spending a few more hundred on one.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Reliably? Around 6-800hp. Anymore than that and you're risking it...not saying it won't hold that power but I would not want to risk that. Some people have gone bigger than that and are ok so far.

Depends on how much you plan on making with those 15lbs. If it's around 700 at the wheels you will be ok with the OEM crank and some forged pistons and rods. It's all in the tune, so make sure that's done correctly.

I would'nt go any more than 600 to the wheels , any more would be risky ,,,,,of course there are other factors such as how often You get on it and tune for sure

The 1k hp mark has been eclipsed with the stock crank, but in the name of longevity, I would not recommend it. 600 is a safe number, but 800ish would be as far as I'd want to push it if it were my car.

I read a few years ago it was good for 800hp. I read it out of one of the chevy 3rd gen v8 books I used to have. If I remember correctly the rod bolts are the weak parts good for 450hp.

I asked Texas Speed the same question and they said they couldn't recall anyone breaking one. Im sure its possible but seems to me that the stock block would get hurt or the crank would start walking before it broke.

It is good to 1100, i personally know people pushing over 800 at the crank reliably with no issues

Do a search for a user y2khawk. There is a thread I remember reading where a few of the big hp guys had ran the stock crank.

EDIT: found it!

I have never heard of any LS series crank breaking from horsepower.

I think I will clean up the stock crank and replace all bolts with ARP that I can to help keep things tight and in place and call it good since I dont think I will be making the power to ruin it or push beyond its limits and if so wont be all the time as wont be daily driven and what not. I think and (knock on wood) hope I will be ok. I have an excellent tuner and will make sure I will be set. Thanks for all the info everyone, much appreciated.

Made 1200 + (engine dyno) with a stock ls1 crank back in 2006. Hp is not the issue. Driving over the crank, rods and oil at 160+ mph is.
