Well i can say from first hand experience that a 250k mile engine does not absolutely need to be taken apart waht so ever if it does not leak, or burn oil and compression is good. i know of a guy 
who sprayed a 250k mile motor and it ran like hell, never once hickupped and was a great car. just look at my sig for proof. so no it does not need to be done but it wouldnt hurt.
