ls 383 questions
ls 383 questions im considering stroking my ls1 out to a 383. would include a mild cam 224/224 583" lift 112 lsa and some ls6 heads or 5.3 heads. question is how much of a hit will i take in gas mpg? car is dd and city car. ls owners here who have stroked to 383 how bad was the hit for you guys? what do you get now?

I wouldnt expect much loss at all in mpg depending on how aggressive the setup is. You might have to work on keeping your foot out of it with all the new found power the 383 will have though.

We are happy to help. go with good solid stuff like aaron says,depending on your budget,i spent 8-9k on my 383 roughly and its a good combination.mine just needs some fine tuning for nitrous.you will be happy with the outcome on a well planned out setup,take your time and read up and talk to shops before you build,goodluck.
i bought my rotating kit from another member on here,it was forged eagle crank,forged eagle hbeam rods and mahle forged pistons for nitrous up to a 300 shot.its working well with just a 100 shot now,soon to be a 200 though.

interesting to see, i'm currently going through my 383 build atm, i spoke to Texas speed, Matt was very helpfull, i was ready to buy but unfortunately the import and government taxes on top here were ridiculous so i sourced it all locally, took me longer than i would've liked but i'd talk to them very good prices, i got a quote on Callies and wiseco pistons, ended up getting K1 forged crank, K1 rods and wiseco pistons for a really good price.
Been told there's not a huge difference as long as your set up and foot aren't heavy Been told the Torque though is unbelievable.
Blackls1ta00 whats yours like with that came driving on the street, and mileage cruising and spiritd driving? i'm looking at a a similar cam, a comp 235/243 .617/.624 lift 113 lsa. And approx 11:1 cr.

Kit from Texas Speed has my vote. I bought mine there last year(Callies crank and rods, Wiseco pistons, all balanced before I picked it up from them). I built the engine and it went together without any problems. The bearing clearances were dead on, no fitment issues, smoothest engine build I've ever been through. I like the added torque that it has down low.

its a great cam,pulls hard,it bucks alittle at lower rpms, but i need some fine tuning and that should disappear. ive had my combo for 2 years,its not a dd,and i run it hard alot and its holding good,i dont look at mileage so i couldnt tell you.i only run good gas which is 93 sunoco,bp93,or shell 93.
yeh BP and Shell 98 is what i'll be running here. Hanging to get it in, was hoping before Christmas so can take it on a big drive to run it in but might be just after now and can iron out most of or any bugs before a big drive.
I had a 25X duration 65X lift cam in mine, got about 120-160 miles to a tank. That was normal driving and some playin around, mix of city and some highway. I also had a 4500 converter though. Bigger motor is always going to use more fuel though no matter what route you go.
Mines a custom cam from EPS and the milage is not as good as it was stock,, but look at what you are wanting to do, you are wanting to do a performance upgrade, and those usually dont run hand in hand with economy. I still get over 20 mpg on the highway with the cruise on. However on city, I have yet to drive like a normal human, but I have a big stall also. Got alot of my parts from TSP and built the engine myself. Dynoed at 492 HP and 468 TQ with a six speed, the swap to auto ate some power though.
