Attach an external oil pressure gauge and make sure it's not your sending unit

Bringing this back. Mine does the same thing. 20 - 25 at a hot idle and 2,000 rpms 40 - 45 and at WOT is 50 - 60. Any idea why?

All engines are different in that matter. I have friends that run lower or higher then me. Stick with the 5w30 it's recommended by factory for our cars. Better oil flow at cold starts

How many miles are on the car. You can tell if the motor is getting worn out or burning a lot of oil. Mine is above 40 at idle and wide open its a lot higher.

It doesn't burn oil. The car made great power on the dyno. It seems to be in great condition but the low oil pressure at idle concerns me. I'm in south Florida so I don't gave to deal with the cold. I like running a bit thicker oil here because it gets so damn hot and there is lots of stop and go traffic due to all the old people. No offense to anyone on here lol.

mine runs the same army boy when i first got the car i was worried bc i had a lsx truck before and idle was 50 plus . I was told it was the small oil pan and not as strong oil pumps that caused this.

Yeah I would say stick with the 5w30. It's about 50-55 here in Cali where I am.

If it helps to ease your mind any, my 90 caprice before and after the 350 rebuild idled at about 25 when warm and raised while driving and raised even more at WOT. same goes for the sbc in my 63 impala and two other ls engines i had. Id have to agree with the manny.

yea i had the same question.. all the other LS cars i owned had 40 or more at hot idle but that is on the crap factory gauge..i am looking at a car with a built LS6 motor with less then 2000 miles on the motor it had 20 psi of oil psi on a autometer mechanicle gauge at hot (190-200) operating temps around 50 at wot. i told the guy before we do the deal i want to switch out the pumps. we put a mellings high volume pump ( which states it WILL NOT increase oil psi at idle in the instructions) turns out the car now has 30-35ish psi at idle at 190 deg. and over 70 just wacking on the throttle. I dissasembled the pump in the motor and it was just a stock ported pump with a stock spring and no shims... so id say it was just a used worn out pump. i didnt notice any bearing material in the oil when we drained it and the filter looked clean.so im sure the tolerances inside the stock pump gearator were just a little sloppy.

oil used was mobile one syn 5w30

FWIW all data says 9psi at idle is considerd "in tolerance" lol

yeah usually 10psi per 1k rpms is considered acceptable.

Mine does the same thing. A little over 20 something at idle. Gauge also seems to hop a little bit.
