How exactly do you align it? None of my installation books make mention of it. I've had a couple on and off my motor while it's on the stand, and there isn't exactly a lot of slop.

Jim85IROC,
If you're referring to the centering of the pump, and proper placement of the o-ring, here you go..

Thanks. First time I've seen that. Out of curiosity, is this how the GM manuals say to do it? It seems like a good idea, but I can't imagine a GM tech doing it.

That is not the way I do it.

The goal of alighning the pump is to make the rotors centered in the housing. Doing it that way does not do this.

Tim at the car shop Inc has a kit that does this. Per him this is very critical.

Gray, thanks for noting this. While I agree that centering the gears/rotor is important, I didn't realize that someone made a device to do so.
I'm going to look into the CarShop kit.

so the cam bearing have to be centered thats definitly something ill look into. Could the oil pump not being centered cause this bad of an oil pressure problem ?

What type of oil and weight are you running? If you live in a hot area your oil win thin out if the weight is too low causing oil pressure to drop. Anyway, did you tighting the bearing clearences when you replaced them? what bearings are you using and what year is your LS1 and compression numbers, what type of cam do you have? i have no idea what is done to your engine to help you find the correct bearings for your car. Another thing is back to the O Ring you should either have a blue or red O ring on your pick up tube. But if you want your oil pressure to increase then tighten the clearance on the bearings I Guarantee that will increase your oil pressure, If your not dropping below 20 psi you should be fine and around 45-50 psi @WOT. Also im pretty sure no algning is needed for your oil pump because its goes directly over the crank when you bolt it on its automatically algins itself with the block. You could also invest in a High Pressure Oil Pump.

I did'nt see anyone else ask so I will, have you double checked the oil pressure with a gauge other than the sending unit output-seen more than 1 LSx loose the oil pressure sender after a rebuild. And the oil pump can be centerd on the crank with 2 feeler gauges=snugged pump feeler gauges
(I think .0020 gauge) placed 180 deg. apart tighten pump remove feeler gauges.

The pump dosnt align it self. The housing needs to be aligned to rotors in the pump not the housing to crank.

its 9.5 to 10 at the very most compression not sure what kind of bearings where used i let the machinist get them it has a high volume oil pump with the high pressure spring in it. It was tested with a manual oil pressure gauge and read the same. The pressure at a hot idle was reading at the most 5 lbs. its sounding more and more like a bearing issue...

Default No Oil Pressure

Went to track, junkyard stock 5.3 motor, 150hp shot of nitrous, in a 64 chevy pickup, 4000b. ran 12.50 @ 106mph, 1.82 60ft. Decimating spark plugs, they were too hot. Thought I'd destroyed motor, next day knocking, no oil pressure. Dropped oil pan cleaned and checked rod bearings, all seemed ok. Lot of research on internet, decided to drop oil pan once more and check rubber oil ring on pickup tube. It was pinched and half there. Chevy dealership, $8 part replaced - all ok. GREAT NEWS. Had to find colder plug, not easy, found an autolite 103, (cross referenced from a TR -6) Will try those. Need recommendation for a cam from someone.

thanks
