Default green o-ring too tight?

i used the green o-ring on a new melling 10296 for my ls1. the pickup tube needs to go up a little further but the o-ring seems tight. i might be able to get the bolt on there and tighten it down to force the tube into place. should i try to tighten it down or remove the green o-ring and replace it with the black one which is thinner?

I ran into the same problem during my build. Oil it up it should slide right in.

In another thread, someone states that 'Tim @ CARSHOP has a kit' to properly align the rotor (& also contribute to the mounting of the pump & o-ring.
Just wanted to add this and note that many people simply bolt up the pump, leaving the bolts untightened. Then mount the pickup tube with o-ring and tighten that. Then, go back to the pump bolts and tighten.

You should have used the BLACK o-ring bud.

yes sir he is right... the green is for the truck pickup tube, if you have a truck then you used the correct o ring if you have an f body, vette or similar then you should use the black o ring.

Find a way to put it in straight. Green is fine as long as u can put it in straight. If it's become to much of a problem use the black one.

According to the directions with the melling pump, the green one is used with the pickup tube which has the flare just below the o-ring. That would be mine.
Melling has us using the black one for the tube without the flare (not me).
I don't have the truck motor, but I'll tell you, that green one seems way too tight for my application.
Upon further inspection, my old blue one is just a bit thinner than the green one, and I'm going to use it (blue one).
