Wanting to start a short block build for FI. Thinking AES 390??
running a stock bottom ls1 right now. Mods in sig. I'm wanting to start building a shortblock on a stand throughout spring/summer/fall 2012. That way I can still enjoy my car and now have it down all year. I have a D1SC procharger, and I'm not sure what size of motor to go with. The options I was thinking about are...
1.buy a 347 forged shortblock from a sponsor
2. Pick up a 6.0L from the junkyard on the cheap (longs as the block is good) and then buy a rotating assembly and have the block machined ecct..
3. Buy a rotating assembly and all the parts I need then pull the motor out of my car toward next winter and rebuild it.
I don't know if I should do a 6.0 or just stay with the 347. My ultimate HP goal is 750rwhp. And this will 95% street car. Can some point me in the best direction to go with this? I rally don't wanna put alot of money into heads. I will buy bobs blower cam and use my intake. I don't wanna go too big where my blower will be to small, but at the same time I'd like it where, if in the future, adding a bigger blower wouldn't hurt it. Make sense?
Thanks

i messaged AES to try to get some answers from them. For 750rwhp being my ultimate goal. I imagine 13-15psi would get me there with untouched 317's and bobs blower cam. would you guys agree? at that PSI level, would head studs be a good idea? its an extra $550 :-/ for head studs.
What about coated pistons/bearings. ive ssen some ppl say coated bearings are a waste and regular bearings are fine and vice versa....

not sure on the #'s yet im in the process of re-doing my fuel system. As soon as its done ill be hittin the dyno. Im making 10psi at 5k rpm with the 3.85 pulley and stock size balancer.
With the coated pistons, Fraser will steer you right but he told me it wasnt necessary since i wasnt plannin on spinnin the motor to 7k.

The $550 head studs option was for the larger 1/2" size studs.. not regular diameter.. and that is for machining only since they have to drill out the original holes and then re tap them by hand.. I would absolutely get studs though, whether the 1/2" or regular size whatever they are, over bolts any day. IMO regular size studs will be fine for you, no need for 1/2" on ur build.
