Default Lost oil, now its knocking

Started a street tune on my car yesterday and once we got it about where it needed to be I took the tuner home and headed to work. On my way to work I heard a knock, and it got louder. I pulled into work and checked my oil... It was very low. I had just checked the oil a couple days ago and it was fine and I hadnt driven it since then. I called a friend and he brought me some oil, it took two quarts to fill it back up.

About the knock. I cant hear it at idle and it is most noticable at around 2000 rpms under a load. Sounds like its comming from the valver cover and it sounds almost hollow, like somethings hitting the valve cover.

i would take the valve cover off and have a look... it is not going to get any better by ignoring it or hoping it will go away,,, might be something you can easily fix now but in a few more days it might turn catistrophic

Check your spark plugs and make sure they're tight (I had a similar problem and a loose plug was causing it) and check for an exhaust leak. I would do those before pulling the valve cover.

It takes 5 mins to pull a cover.

Low oil will kill a motor quick.. ls1s are notorious for it. Check oil 2-3 times a week for a dd.. Every time you drive for a weekend/track car.

Guess ill pull a cover tomorrow and check it out. It was down two quarts. Would that be enough to do catastrophic damage.

Absolutely.

I was less than 1 quart low and spun a bearing.. Granted I was close to 6400rpms, but It still didnt help.

Low oil kills these motors extremely quick.

My guess Is It is worse than you think.. Could be a lifter... Maybe even a spring.. Bent push rod. Any of those will show when you pull the cover.

How is the idle? Where is your oil pressure now?

idle is still choppy as **** due to the MS4 but oil pressure is normal. Springs are double .650 lift springs, pushrods are the hardened ones texas speed gives with the package.

It should.. You should also hear a litter, push rod, or spring at idle as well however.

Take a broom handle or piece of wood and stick it where you think the noise is coming from etc..
