Default Question about my cam. Why such a low lift?

So I have a 5.3 in the T/A now and I was wondering if I should use 1.8 Rockers on my set up because my cam seems to have really low lift. Its 224/230 .538/.538 114+4. Its a custom grind but why would someone make a cam with such a low lift? If I use 1.8 rockers it would take my lift to right at .570 which sounds better to me. Would I really benefit enough from spending all that money on rockers?

You almost be at the same price just buying a bigger lift cam........and would if you bought it used which is a risk but it goes both ways.

Somebody put in that low lift cam because of worries with driveability, mileage and reliability of parts. Not everyone needs a big donkey dick cam to enjoy their car.

And I would not bother with higher ratio rockers, get a more aggressive cam and do it right.

I was under the impression that low lift cams tend to build more torque???

No, low duration makes for more torque. That cam with lift in the low .600s would be an absolute torque monster in the low and mid range.

parks and redtan, thats kinda what I was thinking. For the price of new rockers I could get a new cam. I went with this one cause a friend sold it to me for $150 including a full set of hardened pushrods. I eventually want to add a turbo into the mix but I dont know how well such a low lift will work with it.

So you think its really killing my TQ having little lift? I mean, its more than stock but barely....

For what it is worth, Oem heads do not flow a lot more at .550 lift than they flow at .500 lft, and in lot of cases they flow less at .600 lift than at .550 lift. This may the reason some cams have low lifts in addition to the increased valve spring reliabilty.

You definitely stand to gain quite a bit of torque with more lift, even on stock heads. Moreso with better flowing heads whether they be ported or new ones completely.

If all that is worth the money and effort to change out the cam then do it, but it's not like you have a bad cam in there and sounds like you got a killer deal on it. Heck, purshords alone are just about 100 bux.
