There is a little truth the the performace bearings causing a crank to wear faster but it has nothing to do with the hardness of the bearing material, the reason is that the performance bearings have no embedability layer. The stock type bearings do and it allows any debris in the oil to be embeded in the soft surface layer of the bearing.
This mainly comes into play on the first startup when the engine is freshly built.

What type king bearings where you running in yours? I just don't see spending the extra $100 on performance bearings if its not an all out race car.

The BBC (forged 463) has the .001 thinner Bi-metal HP series bearings (don't have the PN on hand) . My LT1 (forged 383) had Clevite H bearings, and my LQ9 (OEM rods/pistons/crank) has Clevite P bearings.

EDIT

I just checked Summit again, the only King main bearings they have listed for LS engines are the MB5013XP (Tri-metal grooved upper/lower, $145.95) and they are described as "race-only."

I am using all clevite 77 on my build. They all look to be very high quality.

H or P series? The 2199P/H/HK bearings are all TM77.

Have you thought about giving Total Seal rings a shot at all?

No seam full round design, better fit, more available applications. If you ask any engine builder or machine shop most will recommend Dura Bond (some like ACL too).
