i get what your saying about centering the gerotor but doesnt it float inside the housing, if so, isnt it going to move around anyways?
i just completed my melling pump replacement today and i have 60lbs at start up and its holding 40lbs once hot. also use the black o-ring, i tried the green one but couldnt get it to sit right since it was too large. i believe the green one was for the truck pick up tube that is a little different.

your not centering the gear itself, your centering the housing to the gear. so when it spins, it doesnt come into contact (or excessive contact on one side or the other) with the housing.

My engine is not in the car and I had to install a new pick up tube from GM, it came with a blue o-ring an it fit perfect.
