Ed is going to do my work. Just getting a valve job done, maybe some bowl blending, and he's going to design a custom cam for me. His cam info sheet is VERY detailed.

I couldn't decide between him and a couple other shops. After some emails and a long awaited phone conversation, one shop was out. That left FTI and another one. After I got an email back from Ed, and sent/received a few more, the choice was obvious for me and what I was looking for. He's got a heart for the old school cars (I'm doing a 66 Nova) and was spot on for what I was looking for in my cam/head guy.

Yeah, I'd love to do a full port job, but I cannot afford it. Plus, there's no reason for me to go completely crazy because I just don't have enough tire to hook it all up.

I wouldn't be upgrading things to every last $100 you have to get more power (heads). I would get the 10bolt out of the car, and get somthing better. So you end up with 475whp h/c new setup, with a 3;42 10bolt. No fun when that breaks, and it will happen.

Studderin, I agree with you on the 10 bolt. I am pretty much trying to stay around 2000 for a the heads and cam package together. This whole deal, with getting a new clutch is already going to cost me a ton of money. I just see no reason to put the stock heads back on unless there is something done to them so I am checking my options.

I added it all up and its really not that much more to get new heads or something done to the ones I have, either way I would need injectors and a tune. I would hate to put it back together and it still runs exactly the same, it would be like I didnt even do anything.

I appreciate all the responses.

ya see how the cam is with gears like it needs. Sucks your cam is damaged, the streetsweeper cam is hard to find used compaired to others that sized. But maybe that why people like it so much. I know I'm not selling mine and lot of people ask about it.
Budget would be smaller used 224 cam or somthing and stock 243/799s, or some cheap cnc ported ones in good shape if you know what to look for.

Whats wrong with your stock heads beside some oil sludge. The stock guilds, seats and valves are pretty strong. If you springs are worn, you can get new seals for like $25 and just new springs and use them in your kits parts. If your gona sell them let me know.

Nothing wrong with the heads, Just figured while they are off, mine as well doing something with them. I talked with advanced inductions, they can redo them and port them for around $1400 and spec a custom cam. They said doing the 219cc port it would be mid 4xx and street friendly. Not quite sure which route I am going yet though. Going the streetsweeper route would be the easiest, but I want the heads gone thru while they are off, which is between $350 and $500, probably throw springs on, $200, so at most $700, mine as well spend another $700 and have them ported and gain 20 to 35 rwhp.

Sending the 853s to AI sounds like a great plan.

I havent read one bad thing about AI. Man, its pretty hard to decide what to go with when you are doing the work yourself, gives you alot more options.

Their highly regarded for sure. They were always quick to respond to my questions and the power their heads make time after time is outstanding.

I know a few guys w/ heads/cammed ls1s that still have the stock 10 bolt. Guess some are just lucky. Im going to be installing a torquer v2 cam. Hopefully it holds up

So I decided to give Geoff over at EPS a call to see his reccomendations for my setup, stock 853 heads.

He came up with 230, 238, .600, 612, 113. So now I am debating on which way to go.

So is that recommendation with ported, or completely stock 853 heads?
