Default Torquer V3, Streetsweeper HT, Custom EPS or Streetsweeper

So I have done alot of research but still do not know which way to go on my setup. For those of you who dont know I had some oiling problems at high rpm and toasted my cam, lifters and bearings. So it is apart for a rebuild.

I was thinking of the following options but if you have others, please state them and why.

About the car:

99 M6 Camaro
- Mods in sig besides cam, it is toast now
- Car has 3.42 gear, 10 bolt, year or 2 will be upgraded to 12 bolt, 410
- track once a year, maybe twice
- 10,000 miles street driving a year
- Need it to drive nice, no bucking surging at low rpm. Driveability needs to be good.
- Want a nice lope, mean sounding like my original cam
- Want between 430 and 460 rwhp, want a ton of power but still driveable

They are listed in order of which I think would be the best for my needs. I will also be adding heads, I chose 5.3 for the price and value. They would be the PRC heads.

- Torquer V3 plus 5.3 heads
- Streetsweeper HT plus 5.3 heads
- Custom EPS cam and 5.3 heads
- Streetsweeper Cam again and 5.3 heads

You expect to pick up 25-55whp from a cam swap? Won't happen. Outta the choices listed above I vote TV3.

That StreetSweeper stick makes some great power and the V3 might be just
a tad milder but I'm an EPS fan. Talk to Geoff after you get the heads. Also
Pat G. uses some EPS/LSL lobe combinations showing good power.

Sorry, I originally had heads in the post and took them out. There are so many options out there to choose from. I am on a budget so I am trying to stay with like a PRC head, LS6 or 5.3 head. I made good power with my streetsweeper so If I am only going to make 20 rwhp more with heads, it not really worth the money, $1200 for the heads. I drive my car alot , not daily driven but quite a bit of miles.

I also was looking at Advance inductions porting program but that just adds to the cost.

How does AI add to the cost? If you add up what you are getting with each package I'm sure you will see that using your existing head is more cost effective then purchasing a new GM casting. AI has an excellent program for 241 style heads which are a dime a dozen.

AI heads with a custom grind almost identical to the SS HT but on a 113 LSA for driveability purposes..

Great power, with a Slightly lower power band for better driveability.

Merry X-mas!

Texas speed heads are $1200. AI is $1000 for machining and labor, plus springs and such which is another 500 or 600, plus shipping and buying 241 as I have 853 casting. By the time Im done its another 800 bucks

Torquer V3 has already been proven for those heads, ask TSP.

That's sorta apples to oranges. That 1200 is likely a 5.3 head. You are gonna have shipping whichever way you go. I don't ever remember seeing a P+P 241 style head on TSPs website. Have you seen the tricky **** AI can do with a 241 head? Have you read all the dyno/track threads showing those heads producing fantastic results? Stock 241s can be had for $100 or less, maybe even free in some cases. They have a new high compression 241 porting with stock PTV clearance And, for instance, if someone is willing to say port a head for 500, and someone else is charging 1000 for the same job, are the two jobs really created equal? Saying P+P is so generic if you think about it. I'm not bashing anyone btw, just understand that it's not always so cut and dry.

Isn't there like 4 other thread you made looking at these same cams

So you want the power of the street sweeper, the mean sound like the street sweeper cam. But drive like stock, with stock gears its not designed to work best with.

Better heads don't change the low speed driving, get rid of the stock gears and it will drive better. Or go to a smaller cam, or a bigger motor.

If the streetsweeper was still good, I would stick with it, now I have the chance to switch it so I am debating on what to go with. I will be doing the install myself so now I have alot of options. I am going to need a tune also so now is the time to switch if I want to. I definetely need gears, I know this, it probalby would be in the budget if my motor didnt crap out.

Thanks for the input, maybe Ill just go with the streetsweeper again heads and switch out gears. Bet it would make some killer power. How is New Era support when I install myself and dont use there parts as far as a tune in concerned? That is what is making me think twice about what I go with.

241s can be found for next to nothing. TSP heads may be marginally cheaper in the end but I wouldnt say they are a better value. I think AI gives you a better chance of making the power you were looking for while still being on a pretty conservative budget. I also think that with whatever route you go, go with a custom cam tailored to your heads or if your dead set on TSP heads go with one of their cams that is a proven with their heads. I know they always have good deals around this time and their customer service is great from what I have read..

I would think if you didn't change anything you wouldn't need a tune.

If i kept it the way it was i definetely wouldnt need a tune. I debated on changing the heads, but to do a valve job, new seals and such, I was quoted 350, plus I made need new springs, have 15,000 miles on them, so 600 bucks, mine as well drop another 600 and get some new heads for more power.

Also, took the engine out the bottom so its all in pieces, really dont want to take it apart again to do heads sometime down the road. It needed a new clutch disk also so good thing I took it apart.

Why would you need to buy 241's when you have 853's they are the same heads with different castings once ported they should flow the same i'm quite sure AI will port the 853's also.

Why not just have Ed at Flowtech do your heads and let him design a custom cam since he's the one that makes the Streetsweeper?
