Well yea but im not aware of anywhere on the block there are plugs like that. I just got done tearing my whole motor down and didnt see anything like that other than the coolant plugs but those look alot bigger and are a little different. They might have just put them in there on accident? Unless anybody else has any ideas...

I would look at the front of the block and see if they tapped the hole in the front of the oil passage beside the oil pump, it is a press in plug that is an oddball size.
If that isnt it then the best thing you can do is call them and ask.

its just a plug. when u drop off an engine to have it rebuilt, most shops already have a block assembled an ready. this is where the "core charge" comes in. its nothing to worry about. it probably went in the head where a bolt goes into a oil or water passage that isnt used on the setup before yours. its just a "cleaner look" rather than using a bolt to plug a threaded hole.

It looks just like plugs that go in the heads where knock sensors or colant temp sensors go on a older sbc. I just had to fight one out on my truck motor. I don't remember if my ls1 heads had those though.

Yeah I am pretty sure those are coolant passage plugs for the heads.

I'm 99% sure that there is no plug like that required for any of the OEM LSx blocks. There is a plug like that for LSX blocks, however, which plugs the end of the extra oil galley near the cam tunnel.

Is it a plug for the end of the oil galley? I'm not so familiar with LS engines but there are three of those plugs in the front of a gen 1 block.

It doesn't belong to your block I can assure you that, unless someone had modded something.

This.

Like KCS said the only LS block that has anything close to resembling this plug is the GMPP LSX block.

Are you sure there not the coolant/oil plugs from the block? The originals have more of a "head" on them but maybe these are the replacement they are providing you with?

The engine builders were asked; and the engine builders have answered. I suppose it is just hard to prove a negative.......
