Default Cam suggestions.

Hey everyone, I'm currently running the hotcam & was wandering if there was a better performing cam other than the LS6 that will work with the LS6 springs & that will also work well with a set of low budget ported heads(280int/210exh @ 600 lift using stock valves). This is also my daily driver.

TIA,
Mike.

You are really limiting your cam choices by sticking with those springs.

Lets say I decide to change to a better spring... What would be a good cam to use with these heads, that would not require yearly replacing of the springs & would be relatively easy on the valvetrain?

thanks,
Mike.

true. but im sure he could squeeze in a nice custom cam. maybe an XE-R 220/220 .550/.550 114 cam :dunno:

but i agree with you anyway, the ls6 springs are limiting. if it were me i'd pick up some 918's or manleys and run and tr224, or FMS FM4 or FM10

What about the Lunati 222/230 534/544 112lsa?? Do you think some decent gains would be made with this over the Hotcam? Just trying to get some ideas.

Thanks again guys,
Mike

For sure. The HotCam, sounds Hot. The Durration is okay, but the lift sucks.. And by the way I have one too... Okay. Go with the Comp Cams 918 springs. 224/224 .560 .560 and a 112LSA. This will provide good gains over the Hotcam..

Or you could step up to the new Thunderracing cam. that pushs out 450 RWHP on stock heads and all the bolt on's

Good luck

Clint

I have the comp 918's, stock retainers, 7.4 chromoly pushrods with stock heads and a MTI C1 cam ( 222/222-.566/.566-112) and have had no problems with this setup after 10000 miles. Get some better springs and it will give you better options as far as cams go

are you basing that on using the ls6 springs? i dont know the ramp rate on that cam but my guess is its not a good choice to use with the ls6 springs if thats your intention. i've seen people have vavle float using the ls6 springs and small cams like the B1/T1 (221/221 .558/.558 112 and 114lsa).

i say dump the ls6 springs, pick up some that are rated to .600 and then spend some time researching and find the cam that meets your needs and requirements.

I'm running the LS6 springs with my lunati .534 .544 222* 230* 114LSA. I've dynoed almost 400rwhp without tuning.

I'm just ragging on Mike. I'm the one who installed his Hot Cam and I tried to sell him a new set of 918s I had for his new heads and he bought a set of 02 LS6 springs instead. One of these days he'll start listening to me.

I know I know!!!! But at the time I didn't plan on swapping cams & the LS6 springs were easier on my wallet... I believe now, that I'll save up for the TR224/224 563/563 112lsa & a good set of springs... Glen, I'll be getting in touch with you on the cam swap!

Thanks for the help guys!!!!
