Default Picked up an lq with extended crank, help

Picked up an lq for a steal. Engine was running when pulled. Believed to have came from an escalade. Engine has iron heads no issue because some nice ls3s will fix that up. I may have ran into an issue and want to mnow if it will still work with a t56 with stock crank. The crank seems to extend from the rear main seal about half an inch. Do i need a get a crank for this or will it work

Early LQ's have a longer crank at the rear. It will work fine if you want to use an early model tranny. Not sure what year and type of LS transmissions will work with it.

no ls trans will fit with the long crank its best to stay away from the 99 00 lq4 they have the long crank and easy way to tell if its a long crank is if it has steel heads its a long crank sale it and buy a different one onlenn you want to run a 350 trans

yea you can get a stock crank off this forum easy, plus it will save you alot of headaches down the road, especially when trying to couple it to a t56...although im not a 100% sure that a short input shaft LT1 T56 wouldnt work (longer crank flange + shorter input shaft) you would probably have to take some measurements to be sure...or do you already have the LS style T56?

Also I would think about running some cnc ported ls2 heads (like TSP 235 ls2 heads) instead of ls3, i only say that because ive seen alot of data supporting that the 4" bore motors arent big enough to make use of the ls3/l92 heads...if you end up buying a crank and rods you could get a 4" stroker crank and make a 402 without having to bore the cylinders...just throwing some ideas out there

Anyway the only simple way to fix your problem is to run a 350 turbo tranny if you dont want to **** around with the crank issue...anyway good luck bro

Sell the motor, make a profit. Get a 6.0 that will work correct with a ls t56.
Unless u plan on running a th350/400, then keep it

Just curious, as I've never seen this "long" crank in person. Could the extra length be turned off in a lathe and still have enough meat for the flywheel bolts?

I wondered that exact same thing....anyone compared the inner flange from an extended to a regular lq4 crank?

Not something you can machine...will also work with 4L80E trans though or an earlier (non LS) 4L60E/700R4 trans. I have one as well, got the whole truck for $500 with 175k miles and a new 4L80E, all of which will be going into the GN...someday.
