Ehhh be careful with the "member" you are having build your engine. My car sounded exactly the same after I installed a used fast 90 that came with free aluminum. The entire engine was trash.

I found a 2002 long block pullout with 8k miles on Craigslist for $1800. It came with an older bring 228 232 cam and drives like stock once it was tuned properly. My advice is to wait a couple months and either go with a assembled package like tsps iron 402 or wait for a good deal. You should be able to run a cam bigger than ls3 and maintain good street manners.

Which cam should I go with? I am thinking a 226/226 .585/.585 lsa12 or the 224/224 with the 114 lsa? Or should I go with something else? I want to keep drive-ability and still have a reliable setup. I am so lost as to which cam I should go with. Also what the are pricing on the kits and where should I buy them? Please help me out!

An LS3 cam is smaller than an LS6. LS6 is a much cheaper option and will offer more performance. I would recommend a 224 sized cam though if it were my car. Will need springs/pushrods too. An LS6/LS3 will also require springs and need pushrods. LS6 rods are the same as LS1 rods. Sounds like a sales pitch. Diamond makes pistons made for stock rods that are stronger/lighter than stock peices.

If it were my car I would have the block hot-tanked then a decked as little as possible to make sure it stays true. Have you're crank polished if it doesn't need to be turned and if it does need to be turned have it turned .010. Re-use existing rods with good bearings. Buy the Diamond pistons have the block honed for them. If you decide to go with a cam spring the extra hundered or two hundred for a good cam/spring/pushrod combo. Texas-Speed has a killer deal on them. Go with a 224R 112lsa if you want to gain power everywhere and not lose any.
