Default Update on my problems

as stated before i have a 99 trans am, ls1, 6 spd. 79k. The oil pump went out, replaced it and drove it a day then got a loud ticking sound. I dropped it off at a shop the specializes in lt1/ls1. The owner told me it wasnt as bad as my previous mechanic said and i wouldnt need a new motor. He pulled the passenger side valve cover off hoping for a bent pushrod but the previous owner forgot to mention that he had replaced the factory pushrods with hardened ones because one had benn been and wore a hole in th head about 3 times the size it should be. However he said that wasnt a problem. He's not thinking a collapsed or desinigrated lifter but he's gonna have to pull the intake monday. He said if that was all and one's not laying in the bottom of the motor then id be looking at $800 in labor, $400 for lifters, $200 for gaskets, and $100 in machine work. resonable? what do you guys think?

Sounds reasonable for labor, parts, etc. I'd recommend new head bolts while your there.

Your not going to find a lifter just pulling the intake, you have to pull the heads.

400 for lifters?. Unless your going full solid roller, lifters are about 100.

100? where are you getting your lifters at?

If he's getting work done at a shop, there will be a mark-up on the part which is usually accompanied with a warranty for that reason. I think these things at the parts store go for 12-15 bucks a pop X 16 plus a mark-up.

A little high at 400, but if there warrantied for a year or whatever its most definitely worth it.

Scoggin Dickey has ls7 lifters for $121.95 set of 16. http://sdparts.com/category/lifters GM part#12499225 and i would not pay $400 for a set not even if it did come with a "service shop warranty"...GM parts already have a warranty!

I also would not pay a total $1500 to fix the mess under your hood either....go get a longblock or at a minimum a shortblock LS1 and be done with it!

That engine has had metal flowing remnants flowing around in it and ran with no oil pressure...how long you think that engine is going to last you?

LS7 lifter are $122 a set at SDPC. $400 is a rip off.
