Default what allows a motor to rev high?

i was wondering what are some of the major components of a motor that allow it to safely rev high? i heard valvesprings, is this true, or is it , or just half the truth?

i'm looking to raise the rev limiter to a higher range on my 40k mile LS1

this may be a stupid question, but thanx

To get a motor to rev high safely, you must upgrade your valve train. Get light weight parts, better springs, etc. Why did you want to raise the limiter on your LS1 and to what? Are you on the stock cam or aftermarket? If you're on the stock cam, there's no reason to raise the limiter on it. You will even hurt performance reving higher since the stock cam starts to fall off its power band at about 5400 or so (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Do a search on the subject, as posts very similar to this have come up in the past a couple of times.

I would think stronger magnets and more windings. When did GM make an electric car.We have engines in our cars not motors.

weight of your stuff, as well as stroke.

if you destroked your ls1, and upgraded the valvetrain, you could rev to like 9krpm if you wanted to.

arent there people who bore their motors out to like 388? then destroke htem back down to 346 and rev to like 8500-9k? i could have sworn i read about that somewhere.

unless you have a diff cam and springs, theres no reason to raise it!....on my chassis dyno my peak HP was at 6K rpm....so there no reason to take it past that you know!
now when i get my 224 cam i may be making peak power at like 6200-6400. then there is a reason to raise your limiter...........does that help you at all?

More windings, stronger magnets= more flux lines to cut= more flux linkage. More secondary coils than primary coils= more voltage. OK, I'm going to shut up.

With the 98-00 rod bolts I'd keep the rev's ~6,500 personally. With better rod bolts or 01+ you could go higher.

Why are you hitting the rev limiter? Tranny trouble or shifting problems?

valvetrain, and rod/rod bolt upgrades will allow for a safer higher rev.

Just keep in mind that safe high rpm operation is an expensive operation. I'm finishing up my 408 solid roller and I'll tell you it isn't cheap.

hmmm...did you get the !tach mod? If you stock, you're losing time by spinning it that high, and only doing harm to your ENGINE

roger, i know it was. and youre right its an engine not a motor. maybe unless youre driving a foriegn car, but that's besides the point.

i'm just shifting too late, maybe i just ought to get my head out of the clouds, and shift quicker.

thanx to everyone
