Default Why no hyd. cams over 230 duration?

Is that the limit of the hydraulic valvetrain? I dont see any for sale anywhere or hardly anyone running them. Or is it due to the stock pistions and P to V clearence?

The G5X-1 cam from LGM has 233 degrees on the exhaust side!

But they are all low or moderate lift, right?

The so-called "S1" cam, run by a number of people on this board, is a 244/244 .610" hydraulic cam. Pretty much only used in big-displacement LS1s as it is too big on duration for stock cubes.

230 is bit large for a stock cube motor...notoriously lazy at low rpms...but 230 is common in big cube motors

They did on the G5X-1.. look in the thread about their new cam..

If 230 is lazy for stock cubes, then whats up with the solid rollers running ~240?

If you are running a cam 230 plus I hope you are running 4.10's plus.. I do not know where people are getting this lazy at lower rpm's from.. Yes a smaller cam will have more power down low, but by 4000rpm the horsepower is pretty much equal until the bigger cam takes over.. If you are dropping below 5000rpm between shifts when racing then you need to shift quicker..

232/236 114 +4 XE-R lobes in my car now. not wild about it so I'm going back down to a 228/228 114 +4 to gain a little more midrange TQ and a lower idle and lock-up rpm.

Comp Cams has some pretty nice lobes in the 230º-244º range. I suspect that do to a somewhat limited intake manifold setup, the larger cams won't produce the high rpm power that they should. The bigger cams reduce low end torque and coupled with less than optimum high rpm capability there is diminishing return. Tuning for the larger cams is also taking some time to figure out.
Of course, some are probably trying but not commenting.

I have the G5X1... 229/233. Although I have 4.10s its NOT lazy on the low-end. Car has just as much or more low-end from 2grand up.

I'm about to fire mine up with a custom grind
232/228 XER and a custom made short runner carbon fiber intake manifold. I'll post the results.

The longer duration cam is need to support the higher rpm range. On a stock cam, the rwhp peaks at about 5800 or 5900 rpms. Up a longer duration cam in and the rwhp peaks in 6200+ range.

232/232 112LSA cam here in stock cubes. Not exactly lazy IMO (expecially for a 3600 lb car)
