Default Holy shyte !!!

So I go to change my oil figuring no biggy , Ive done it so much I can do it with my eyes closed. Right away I notice the oil isnt coming out through the drain hole in its usual gush and I'm like WTF ??!!?? I get my drop light and handy dandy magnet and push in the drain hole with the pen magnet. OIl comes out good and at this point I know something is seriously wrong. I let the oil drain all out and I peer in and see the screw end of a bolt !!! that happens to be around the same size as the oil pump bolt !!! I'm 99% sure thats the bolt and my dumb *** probably crossthreaded it or most likely stripped it at some point during last years build . So my question is how the F#%$ do I get it out. What options do I have besides dropping the pan? Can I remove the timing cover and reach it from there with a magnet? thanks in advance

ive heard some people get it out by removing the sensor on the pan and using a strong magnet on the outside of the pan and walk it towards the hole the sensor goes in and get the bolt out that way. good luck

Considering the damage that can and will most likely happen if You don't clean "ALL" the metal shavings out of the entire engine I would strongly suggest at the very least removing the oil pan , timing cover , rocker covers and the oil plugs in the block and power-flushing the sh_t out of her ,,,,,,,tow to a do-it-yourself car wash and/or call a shop or 2 experienced with LS's or dealer and ask the mechanics if they know of a procedure for instance remove oil plug xx but leave plug x in and power flush ,,,,then remove plug x and flush thru this plug or . Good luck for sure

I missunderstood ,,,I thought You had shavings along with the bolt part

Ya, thats under the stock baffle....I can see pushing it over past the front of the V, so its under the oil level hole. Dont let it roll between them.

Im taking my oil pan of today, I dont think I have a oil pickup bolt to see it the head will fit thu the level sencor. hole.

I like the idea with the sensor hole n the magnet. I realized last night that the oil pump pick up is now missing a bolt and I'm going to have to at least unbolt the pan. I didn't see any shavings in my oil or anything outta the ordinary . With me luck guys n I'll post pics after I m done and how I did it

Is it the nut that secures the pickup to the baffle/tray, or is it the bolt that secures the o-ring end of the pickup tube?

Sorry, I didn't see the part where you saw the threads on a bolt.

Agreed. While you might be able to get it out using some of the creative ways suggested here, you'll still have some fastener missing. Even if it's not critical like a windage tray bolt, if left out worse things may follow.

Drop that pan!
