If your car is gonna be apart more than week, do it yourself. I did my head gaskets 3 times. Its very doable, but I didn't have to mesure anything related to the valvetrain. This where it starts to be tricky. This year, I'll be paying a top notch shop to do the valvetrain. But, I could have done it myself.

Whatever you do, pay someone that knows his lsx stuff, if not, do it yourself.

This may be a stupid question but which book are you talking about?

Get the "haynes" manual for 93-02 camaros.. its like $15

then they have the "How to build Ls1/Ls6" book, it has a blue cover and a picture of a ls1 engine on it.. also at autozone for $24.99

all you need is the haynes book because you need to know what the torque values are for everything your removing or installing..

then go to ls1howto.com and it basically walks you through doing a H/C install with lots of pictures and what tools to buy and it makes it pretty easy.. even though I know how to do it all now, I still use it as a reference because of the pics..
