228R

The low end and mid range power will be much more useable for what you want, and less stress on valvetrain too!

The 228R is generally what we recommend for an application such as yours with goals such as yours.

Compared to tbe 228r yes. I was debating the 228r tq v2 and v3. Ended up going with the 228r and i really enjoyed it.

The 228r is much better suited for a street car and easier to tune as well and wont sacrafice low end for a minimal top end gain. All 3 cams for me wouldve been within about 10hp of each other.

go 228r. the torque down low would suit you better instead of having to get the rpms up higher with the v3

Whats the power band of the V3? I was thinking it would produce alot of torque, I guess I was mis-informed.

I have the V3, it really comes on at about 4200rpms and doesn't fall off. I prefer more midrange / top end, which is why I choose it.

I have manual trans and 3.73 gears. All I want is to NOT be a slug off idle.

If someone can post up a dyno sheet with 2.5 ls6 heads, 228r & FAST 92 I'll post my sheet with the V3 to compare. I wouldn't say it's a dog down low, I have stock gearing and it will break my 315 nitto DRs loose with ease. But it would be a lot more fun with 4:11 gears.

When you say Dog, you mean bad? I have deep gears (3.73), what do you have?

No, I don't think it's bad down low. But I don't have any other cam to compare it to either. I have stock gearing....3:42's. It is a midrange, top end cam so the 228r would probably be better for you. Just thought a dyno sheet comparison would be interesting to see.

I'd be interested in seeing your dyno sheet if you get a chance.

I told Texas Speed it looks like I'm going the 228R, but I'm very hiesitant!! I dont want to have it in and say, I should have gone bigger! All the threads I searched call the 228R a "small cam"

Whats the redline on your V3 combo?

Anything under .600 lift & 230 duration is considered a small cam but its on the higher end of being small. More like a medium cam. If your mostly driving on the street the 228 really rips, cam has a nice wide powerband. After a few years you may want something bigger but who doesnt? I have been running a 228 for 3 yrs now, still happy with it but I have gears & a great set of heads too.

If your thinking you should go bigger now before you order I'd definitely do it. I actually wish I would have went with something in the high 230's now, but no way I'm doing all that again. I may upgrade in a few years but for now I'm going to enjoy my build for awhile.

I shift at ~6500rpm's, but it still hasn't dropped yet off so you could probably take it to 7k if your brave or have the internals to spin the motor that high.
