Generally LS6 is the way to go until your combo needs more, then a FAST or TPIS 90 LS6. BBK doesn't make enough if any over the LS6, just looks different and weighs more.

Many people on tech only like the fast or the ls6 intake. BBK is proven is proven to gain over the ls6. BBK can also be ported as well as modded to accept a 90 TB with out paying tpis 350 dollars to do it.

Don't buy into the heatsoak BS either. BBK is the medium between the ls6 and the fast.

if you have a LS1 intake now, and cant get a LS6 for less then $320 shipped, I would get the BBK. I dont see it on the New Newera site but I kow they sold them cheap. I htink they were $350 or $380? But I would get a BBK and take the 5-10ph over the LS6 for $350-$365 they can go for.

you can get a LS6 and then send it to bare essential racing and get it ported.

the ls6 is proven and never gets anything but positive feedback. the bbk gets way too many mixed reviews.

half of the "mixed reviews" are from people that have never run the bbk they just repeat some bs they read.... i have run the ls6 and bbk ssi with 85mm throttle body, later i ported the bbk and the tb and had good gains, if given the choice i would pick the bbk every time...and that heat soak argument is for the birds

only reason i sold the bbk was to step up to a fast 102

The BBK will out perform the LS6, the BBK is heavier, the BBK is stronger if goin boosted which is a smart move, all Facts.

If you have a chance to go either route for basically the same cost go BBK, if the LS6 is the cheaper route, go LS6. Both are good intakes & both are proven. Other than that its a pissing match for those on both sides.

And I agree on the heat soak. I tried to preach that in the external section once upon a time but some people still believe when air is moving through the intake its actually in there long enough for the intake to heat it up which is BS. At WOT air is only in there for a split second. At idle is when you would see heat soak and even then once the TB cracks open and fresh air enters its gonna be a null point.

someone should just stop the arguments by putting an air temp sensor in a BBK and datalogging. then once there are facts, people can find something else to argue about.

My Buddy had to put leaf springs on his car to hold up the front end after installing his BBK. Added about 14 lbs I believe!!!!!(don't buy into the "it's Heeaaavy" thing).

The only thing that I don't get about the whole heatsoak BS is why does this seem to be an issue with LS engines, but not with any others? Consider that with Chrysler the 5.7 Hemi uses a composite intake, but the more powerful 6.1 Hemi uses an aluminum intake? Maybe the engineers at Chrysler know something we don't?
And almost all the aftermarket carb intakes are aluminum, and a lot of big power racing intakes are sheet metal. Sheet metal would retain a lot more heat than aluminum.
While I have seen tests that show the aluminum intake may be hotter, I have not seen any proof that it affects power in any way.

I love my big heavy Edelbrock proflo xt. Hogged the inside of it out, then did dome grinding, sanding and polishing to the outside of it to make it look as good as it performed

LOL, takin that a bit far huh.

All laughs aside it is alot heavier than a composite intake. But thats just b/c of the material of construction. Is it enough to really matter, no not unless your the guy also pulling interior panels & tryin to save every single pound you can for a strictly track car.

Yea, kinda going over board with that one. Just a little humor for those who need it, like me. Makes me wonder, how the hell did we survive the SBC days with an aluminum Victor Jr. You know, the "weight and heat soak thing"? LOL

id say go for cheaper. the only reason i am running a ls6 is because i got it and a set of fast rails for $200. so i had the tb and intake ported. bbk would be cool for something different

OK, what about the big-block Mopar? Those intakes didn't have coolant running through them?
