Default Good cam for my setup

Ok, i know theres a bunch of cam stickies and threads out there but they are not helping me much for what i need. I recently spun a rod bearing, so the engine is getting rebuilt. While its under the knife, gonna do a cam swap. My car is a 98 LS1, LT's, ORY, Borla, A4, 3.73's, ls6 intake. I want this to be very streetable, but as much as i can get without making the driveabily horrible. I have been in the mix of a 228r 112lsa, or ive heard about the torquer series. Unfortunately im not gonna be able to go with forged internals, due to money. But with what my current mods are? what are some opinions for a good streetable cam, but it will see some track time. Any input is appreciated... I just want the most i can get. Also, what would be a recommended stall? Thanks for any input.

Torquer V2, with a higher Lobe Sep (113-114) for streetability.

1gt2nv IMHO I believe that 4000 is too much stall. I'd shoot for a 3200-3600.

I'm unfortunatnly not going to be much help for you, but I'm looking into a heads/cam combo myself. I plan to rebuild my bottom end (crank/rod bearings, rod bolts, hone, rings) next spring and am looking at the 228r. I've done hours of research on it and it seems to be very, very streetable, with solid hp numbers and a smooth curve. I plan to use a set of PRC 215's with mine in hopes of making around 450 rwhp. Good luck in your rebuild.

ya i think 4000 stall is to much for that size cam. stall size will depend on cam size. and you should ask yourself if u plan to spray the car in the future. if u spray it i wouldn't go past 3600. why not get a juicy size cam and 4400 stall =) that will yank *** out the hole.

A 228/228 with a 112lsa shouldn't even be a issue for a good tuner, it only has 4* overlap. IMO, go with the 228/228 112 lsa and a stall in the 3200-3600(max) range, you'll be very happy!

I will be using an ls6 intake, with stock heads for now. Like i said im on a smaller budget as this happened out of no where, so im trying to put money into where its needed most, more internally. heads i can always change at a later date. I like the sound of the 3200 stall, i definetely want to keep my streetability.

I think the V3 would be a bit big for good streetability. Not saying it can't be done. I think you are headed in the right direction with the 228 and 3200 stall. I have a similar setup to you, but i have 4.10's and ported 243's. I will be doing the F11 with a 3200/3600 stall. Either way you will be happy. Good luck with your build.

100-150 shot on a stock bottom end is as common as the cam choice you are planning on which both are good ideas. The 228 is an amazing cam for what it is. You will be very happy with that cam but i wouldnt go with the 3200 stall i would just go up to a 3600 and be done with it. It will be a very good match up with your 3.73's. Good luck with everything man keep us posted on the build

I went from a vigilante 3200 to a circle D 4000 and the drivability is still the time. Performance is so much better with the 4k stall.

I would honestly look at the TSP 232/234. Good all around size. The TSP 228 is a great cam too. But later on, you will wish you would have went a tad bigger.

I ran a TR224 with a Yank 4000 and it was great.

OP, go TR228 and an SS3600. It will be a nice street-able combo.
