Default Anyone have info on clearnacing for Big CI buildups?

Thinking about putting my own Big Incher together. Not sure whether to go 387all bore, 396, 408 or larger. Looking at using a Darton Sleeved block, either stock or Stroker Crank, Callies. What combos dont require clearancing? I would guess the stock stroke or up to the 4.000" wouldnt require it, but not sure. Any info on this is greatly appreciated.

Not the trades secrets, just an insight on whether a certain combo doesnt require any. I see your point, but dont think it applies that much. Looks like its going to be cheaper to pick up a short block from a sponsor, than to build one anyway.

The only clearancing issue we had with the callies 4.000 crank was the piston to reluctor wheel using diamond 4.130 pistons.

On the clearance issue for strokers, a lot will depend on what combo of parts are selected. Sometimes with a 4 inch crank you can need to clearance depending the rods & bolts used etc. The answer can change depending on what parts are selected.

Charlie,

The bore size has much to do with whether or not the rod bolts will clear. I can tell you that the Lunati rods (6.125") will clear the bottom of the cylinders and Darton sleeves at 4.125" bore and 4" stroke. I'm assembling a short block on a block I sleeved with Darton MID's. The only problem is the reluctor hit the machined piston for cylinder 8 and I had to further machine it. I made Lunati aware of this so I expect they will make the necessary changes to their pistons.

The Eagle rods at 4" stroke will require clearance notches at the bottom of the cylinders regardless of bore size.

Yah, we had to notch the bottom of the cylinders to clear the rod bolts with a callies 4" and eagle 6.125" h beams on an alluminum block.
