Default What cams do you have in your A4.

What cams?
What LSA?
How does it idle, with and with-out tune?
Who did you get it from?
How does it lope?

I have spent days searching this forum, and still have some ???
I am so torn. I want to get 400rwhp with cam only setup, and plan on getting the following.
Cam (want a rice-scaring lope)
Hooker headers w/ORY
Cutout
TCI SSF 3500
Trans-go(came in the mail today)
PP TB
ASP UDP
n/a
No NOS

TRex for my forged 346, hopefully it'll be ready in a couple weeks. I think the cam card said 242.9/248.9 110lsa Cam came from thunder. All work done my RMS in Kansas City. Should be pretty nasty.

TSP231/237 .598/.595
112*lsa
Idles @ 900 smooth as silk tuned, had a lil TR224 cam prior so cant comment untuned.
TSP sponsor-------------->
Lope, well not as much as I would like. At 550rpms is nice, but I have a hard time tuning it that low, I am not really patient with my own car. It has a cammed sound!
Tuned I am sure you would hit the 400 mark.

Good luck.

How does it compare to the TR224. That is the other cam that I am looking at. Just not sure about the 231/237 in an A4. Where did you get it tuned?

Comp 224/224 581/581 112lsa. Idles great @ 800rpms. Cold start ups it has a real mean lope to it but after it warms up it goes away a little. Car would not run without a tune...also had to drill the TB. But its a great daily driver cam.

MTI R1 Cam

232/236 .575/.578 112 +4 <-- A bit easier on the valve springs than the 600 lift cams
Idles nice at about 925 with a tune
MTI sells it Sponsor----------->
It lopes nice
Makes great power at a very reasonable rpm ( Peak was 6100 ) holds it through 6800
I drive this car 400 miles per week and ny rush hour traffic
Hope that helps

You really would be a sensitive person to tell the difference after idle from a 112 and a 114.
I tuned my own car, or partially shall say. This cam can idle lower, but it is my impression that in doing so, unless you got it ***** on, you are going to be loading up the plugs a little. I had it idling lower, sounds mean as ****, but then it would always walk a little more before ripping the pavement apart. Now its a matter of when, press pedal and its gone! I really havent played much with the tune on my own car much, but overall it is easy enough to do.
Between the 224 and 231, you can feel the power diff in the way it pulls. It pulls much stronger, and keeps pulling past the 224 mark. Nice cam overall.

I like my TR224-114 a lot. I have a 3500 stall and the car is very nice to drive. I have no tune on a stock idle and it is bearable...not much of a headache.

MTI X1 (230/227) on a 112.

I originally didn't want to go with a cam this big.. but I was talked into it by Tony(Nineball) and Jayson from MTI. I must say it's a ton more streetable than I could ever imagined.

I think the big key to making large cams in A4's drivable is tuning.

Should be interesting to see how the TRex guys make out.

BLU,

I think your goal of 400rwhp, cam only, on an A4 is just slightly optimistic.
On a positive note, an A4 with 385rwhp will rip awesome ET's in the 1/4.

Also, if you're gonna go with the big cam on your A4, remember that we don't have much selection for tuners in our area. Call around and ask them if they have experience with A4's and big cam combos (I doubt it). You may have to make a trip up to Orlando, or get a mail order tune from your vendor.

Either way, good luck! We'll line 'em up when you're all done with the install.

I was thinking that I was gonna end up a mail in tune anyways. So I'm expecting it. I really love the way your car sounds and I want that cam. But I am a little optimistic on how it is going to run in an A4. I don't want to start messing around with heads just yet. I would rather put a little bit of the power to the ground with some suspension mods first. The other way I am thinking is to go with the smaller cam now and then mess with the heads later, that way I know I would hit the 400 mark.

Can't wait to line them up. I am a little optimistic about that though with your new rearend in. Have you taken to the track yet. How does it feel.

I dont no of many A4 guys with cam only that are at 400rwhp. But it depends on what your goals are , that will help you pick a cam. Dam here i am with only 341 rwhp and I dont think a bigger cam will give me ahole lot more hp, maybe 10hp . But the 224/224 is a great cam and a proven performer, as always a good tune will get you the most power out of your motor and make it bearable to drive.

I had the X1 with Stg 2+ MTI heads, 3disc 4000 Vig, Jayson did an AWSOME job of tuning...I only had to drill the TB to stop it from surging and dying...that took all of 30min...and it only took that long because I cleaned it up some, polished it some and the fact I had my dual nozzle TNT nitrous kit on there. After drilling the TB, it never died, surged, etc. Like that w/out the Dope the car made 440rwhp, and 550rwhp on the 100 shot....this on a 105,000 motor.....

The bad news for you is unless you go with a 240/240 or bigger cam you're not gonna get 400rwhp.....maybe 400FLYWHEEL hp......I don't think I've seen many..if any cam only 400rwhp cars.....maybe the G5X3 cammed M6'ers can do it, but I highly dought an A4 is gonna get it......sorry bud....but Good Luck...let us know how it turns out!! this should be very interesting and informative.
