Ls6 cam hp 1/4 mile gains?
#22
Trust me guys I know there are many many many more cams out there lol. I have done research on this crap for years.... The only reason I'm doing this is because it's so cheap. 3 tenths and 3 mph is worth it to me.. It will take me 1-2 days to do the work for some good gains.. And I will get good gas mileage and can run these springs 75,000 miles and not even have to worry about them.

Ls6 cam is one of the best budget cams out there... For what he will get it installed for, all the parts, and the tune it will be cheaper than most cam kits, even used.
It really is hard to beat it n a really tight budget and keeping everything else in mind. The ls6 cam can take you far.

Also bryan at pcmforless told me it's only $50 for a retune + shipping so total cost will be damn cheap for me to gain some decent top end....
Cam, springs, pushrods-$235
Tune $100
Cam bolt&gasket kit $60
Coolant $25
Oil $25
Silicone, loctite, antiseeze $20
That is $470 installed with tune ready to roll down the road. That's pretty good $ to hp ratio if you ask me. Like $15-$18 per hp?

I really like the LS6 cam, I'd like to score that or the ASA cam since my car already has LS6 springs.
LS6 doesn't need tuning, should be an easy 20hp at peak, but with the higher shift points, you may see closer to double that in the top end over the LS1 cam and stock shift points.
I don't have it saved, but I remember a dyno showing about ~25rwhp from LS6 cam and tune at peak, and nearly 50...yes, 50 at the top end after spinning it higher.
LS1 cam kinda falls off past 6, LS6 cam keeps on goin.

Considering the 01 385 LS6 and the 405HP LS6 only difference is the cam. That's your difference there... My t/a has 243 heads 1256308 LS6 cam same cam you got... Stock LS1 intake and ex manifolds... ORY, SLP LM, ported tb and maf ends, SLP lid and cut open bottom air box, lower t-stat... dyno on dynojet 353rwhp/360rwtq with no tune.
02-04 LS6 Z06 make between 360-365rwhp stock... with 13% drivetrain loss is about 415hp flywheel and i saw in GM High Tech long time ago... 01 Z06 dyno in mid 330s and the only difference is the cam... SOOOOO I'd say for a M6 car, the 1256308 LS6 cam is worth 25-30hp.
If you are debating about going aftermarket cam... decide how are you going to drive the car. my t/a is my DD beater (in my eye) about 100 miles m-f round trip... I beat on it! Speed on the highway. I picked the LS6 cam b/c it's OEM quality and would be problem free drivetrain for me a set it and forget it set up if you will... but if you don't drive the car much secondary car etc... go with an aftermarket cam or look at the GM stage 2 or 3 LS6 cam. No sense on doing that labor or paying for it and put in a cam you might be unhappy with...

If I set the shift points to 6500 I would think 3 tenths and 3 mph would be closer. I would really like to see 3 tenths/mph with this kit bumping my shift points to 6400. I mean people that are only seeing 20hp usually don't have all the bolt-ons I do. I have full bolt-ons and a 3400 stall to keep this thing in the right rpm range. My shift extension should be right around 4400 rpm and I have all the intake and exhaust to support the cam. Not to mention I heard this cam was good for n20. I guess I forgot to mention I have a 100 shot on the car also...

My results stock 1721 LS1 cam 308rwhp after LS6 cam 331rwhp both on stock manifolds. This is my DD and I drive 40k a year easy, obviously the cam choice had to be conservative.

I just installed a LQ9 6.0 into my car, swapped in a 03 LS6 cam, springs, Comp 7.425 pushrods along with a LS6 intake, ported TB, Pacesetter LTs, ORY, SLP 2OTL catback and 3:90 gears. Ive been driving it around on the stock tune and it drives suprisingly well. Bryan from PCMforLESS will be Dyno tuning it tomorrow or early next week. Im hoping for 380rwhp.
