Default Pushrod Length Question

98 Ls1 with jesel shaft mount Non-Adjustable Sportsman rockers and cam.

I set the pushrod length checker to zero-lash on the base circle of the cam. The length of the checker is 7.2640 using digital calipers.

7.2640 + .060 = 7.324

Therefore I should be getting a set of 7.325 pushrods.

Is this correct? They are stock ls1 lifters and assuming preload to be .050 to .080 with .060 as ideal.

I tried running it with 7.4 pushrods, (told to do so by a shop) and it sounded terrible, as if the lifters were bottoming out.

I'd run the 7.325 pushrods. That should get you where you want to be

Remember when you're ordering MOST brands of pushrods, you are ordering a gauge length. Gauge length with the 5/15" ball-end is about .020" shorter than your tip to tip length. So subtract the .020", then add your preload. I'd go with 7.300" based on your tip to tip measurement.

I normally pre-load the lifter to .030-.060

7.300 would give you .056

I read on here .050-.080 is the range for LS1 lifters.

I measured the 7.4's with the same calipers as the pushrod length checker. The 7.4's came out to 7.4000. Should I still subtract the .020? They were speed inc pushrods..

You will have to ask the company you plan to buy from. They may or may not advertise the way you measured.

The Comp Cam Hi Tech measures in Gauge length (If you use the lines).

Exactly, not ALL pushrods are ordered by gauge length, but many are. You have to check with them.
