Crazy Question

I have a friend who is spaying his all factory stock car and even with the all the required tables set to 10,000 RPMs it still acts like it hits the limiter at 6,500.
I see no reason to rev it that high but that is what he wants.
So I would like to know if it could be possibly floating the valves.

Yeah, the stock cam on a '99 peaks at around 5200-5500 RPM I believe, so it would be completely pointless to raise the limiter on a stock LS1 unless you just want to do damage.

Thanks again everyone, for some reason he believes the Nitrous extends the rpm range beyond what is would be NA. I couldn’t say because I have very little experience with Nitrous.

When I got my car tuned, I told him I wanted to set limiter at 7400, I'm using the raptor cam, heads, stroked, in case someone is wondering why 7400, but the tuner said since I had a six speed and if I was running nitrous that its safer to set the limiter above what you plan on shifting so that there is more of a cushion in case you miss a gear, he said if the nitrous were to be on when you bump off the rev limiter the nitrous will continue to flow but fuel will stop causing a chance for a failure. but 10,000 is too much cushion, especially on stock bottom end and cam.

The limiters are on 10,000 per his request he wants to spin it past 6,500 while spraying but it still acts like it is hitting the limiter at 6,500 rpm. My question is with the rev limiter removed how high can you rev a factory stock 1999 LS1 until it stops pulling or floats the lifters?

BMW3588, thanks for your input. I see you’re from southern Ohio I was born in Ironton and still return there to visit several times a year.
My 175,000 mile Z28 has a Yank SS3600, MTDRs, Lid, FTRA, and Cat Back. It turns 8.2 in hot weather at our local 1/8-mile track.
My track tune is set to shift into 3rd at 6,400 (right at the finish line) so I can get an 85-86 mph trap. The motor is factory stock and doesn’t float at that rpm.
