The manual says not to reuse the head dowels, so I'd grab four from the dealer. GM sells a nearly complete top-end gasket kit that includes MLS head gaskets, intake seals, head bolts, MLS exhaust gaskets, etc. much cheaper than buying the parts separately.

Part# was 12499217 when I bought it, $114 wholesale.

That cam has too much lift for those heads. Totally unnecessary and hard on valvetrain. Look at .600 lift max.

So is it really necessary to replace the dowl pins when doing a head swap....? i know the manual says not to reuse, but its not like reusing a head gasket or stock head bolt. or is it?

After they've been pressed in and heat cycled, it's possible that they won't hold the head in place as positively as new ones. For the price it's not worth futzing about.

Think he was referring to the Original Poster.

Good point, but they are just alignment dowels to hold the head in place so you can get the bolts in so I don't think it really matters. They are cheap, so replacing them is not a big deal.
