Default Quickest/easiest most effecient way to gain a solid 40-60 rwhp? No nitrous..

Title says it all. I'd like to add 40-50 hp to the rear tires in my 2000 trans am ws6 M6. I do not want to go the nitrous route. Right now the motor is stock except ngktr55 spark plugs. Rear end gear is 4.10 and has a borla exhaust system along with a diablo tune. I want the easiest and quickest method to gain 40-50 hp at the wheels. This will be a daily driver. Just change out a cam? Aftermarket heads? ect? what is the most efficient way to do this. Thanks!

TSP 1 7/8" Stainless Steel Headers = $499 (texas speed website)

TSP SS Y-Pipe (Non-cat) = $149

LS6 Intake = $350 (classifieds)

Frost Tune = $149

Don't forget all misc. expenses. And enjoy

Also, wrong subforum? Why add heads or cam if your bottlenecked at your headers & y-pipe?

Edit: Start considering a clutch upgrade and a new rear-end too.

adding a cam to manifolds and, stock exhaust will still add horsepower but will be restrictive... Search around in the for sale section and try and get your exhaust stuff there...

1. 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 headers
2. Free flowing y pipe
3. Cam, springs and pushrods
4. Ls6 intake
5. Tune and rock out!

Could add 30-70 depending on what cam you go with.. I personally like a lsl/lxl split but a xer cam like a 230/236 would be good also

I personally would be sketched out about eBay headers, but some people use them. Cam would be unnecessary for 40rwhp.

If you want just 40 hp, just do headers, y-pipe, and a mail order tune. If you want a little more, get a cutout and a intake manifold(good for that extra 10-20 hp)

What's a stage 3 Viper clutch?

As stated though, Car has to be able to inhale and exhale freely. You'll definitely feel it SOTP as well.

Your car has a good catback as is, just remove the plate. I see no need for a cutout. It's 3" through the passenger tailpipe.
I'd go TSP 1 7/8" headers, TSP 3" Y, LS6 intake, and a Frost tune. Case closed

It was a eps cam. The eBay headers made the power but they donot fit perfect. Little massaging in a few areas are needed to keep them from beating around on things. Springs I found new in the forsale section here. You can call eps and he will spec you a can for your needs. I think he has cam packages starting at $620 with cam springs and pushrods on his website

But you will far surpass the 40-60 RWHP goal he wants with a cam.... so I say if you're going to do it, get matching heads and a cam AFTER you get your 40-60 with an LS6 Intake and Headers.

It's a Spec stage 3.... a good clutch no doubt. I was just ribbin ya a little bit.
I agree with idle. Cam & heads AFTER full bolt ons.

These cars are a lot of fun with full bolt ons for a while. Yeah, eventually the mod bug will come back, but I've always found it fun and enjoyable to build a car in stages and enjoy it along the way.

Yes you need all that. Still cheaper than a cam or heads, and will make more power.

Your cats are worth about 120 bucks too, so that offsets cost at least a little.

Easiest and efficient way ro gain power, port and polish ur heads and throttle body urself. de-screen MAF sensor. Cometic head gaskets .040. Gut ur cats. k&n air filter kit and a tune. headers next then cam. that should give u good power with little coin. dont forget the springs tho.

Assuming he knows how to and has the tools to P&P the heads. Descreening the stock MAF isn't a gurantee.

Doing a headswap and hand porting your own heads is the easiest thing you can think of?

That's 6 hours of labor just for the heads plus the countless of hours he has to sit there and painstakingly port the heads.

vs. a 3 hour header install job...

im assuming he's on a budget. if u notice everything i posted, that can be done with less than $200. Yes it is time consuming but with little cash thats not a bad route for power. Now if it were me, i'd say cam, heads, headers w/ cutout and a tune. that will give u @100 rwhp. Not to mention all the other bolt ons. But it looks like he is looking for just a couple horsepower. Everyone knows he can pop in a MS4 cam with a tune and call it a day reaching over 40hp. or some PRC 215's with gutted cats and cometic gaskets, but thats pricey. again, i was just go with a cheaper version of getting the power, thats all.
