Default 1/8 mile Vs. 1/4 mile cam?

If a car will only see the 1/8 mile and NOT the 1/4, what are some of the different specs you would look for in a cam?
I know gearing can be changed to counteract most of the difference, but given normal M6 3:42 gearing in both scenarios.

I think the 228R would be a good choice. It pulls very strong down low.

Seems like you would typically be in lower RPMs more, so would you want a smaller lsa?

Cam choices don't need to change. Just change gearing lol. All you are looking to do is get the most usable power for your set up. Once you have the engine where it needs to be, use gearing to adjust RPM to MPH changes.

I would just try to avoid all the top end donkey dick cams...pretty much anything in the high 220s will not sacrifice low end power/tq

True but I dont think he is looking for a huge cam.

Agreed. It seems like the 228R is what he is looking for.

4.10s would be a much better mod.

Lol.. gearing will never be a "better" mod than an aftermarket cam grind for performance.

cam and gear accordingly..... 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile has no effect... My car never see's below 4000rpm's during a run.-From the start to the finish whether it be 1/8 or 1/4... You gear the car for the 1/8 or 1/4, you dont CAM for the 1/8 or 1/4.

I'm guessing you are in 3rd? What is your RPM across the line?

thats a good question lol, in third and guessing about 5-5500 im usually frustrated by that point because of the launch and dont pay any attention .last time at the track only pass cut 2.0 best 60ft so far and missed third crossed lights coasting at 72mph and ran 8.30 which was personal best 1/8th

Exactly.

If your car is dropping enough RPM that you think you need a lot of "low end" from the cam, you either need deeper gears or a bigger converter or both.

Ok. Thanks Everyone! Seems everyone thinks gearing is the only real variable...

In the 1/8th a good topend has less time to make up for a mediocre launch so if anything 1/8th mile 60ft is more important.

Gear to use available rpm is important too I am not arguing that.

You have a .50 OD so gear is not going to hurt you on the highway or anything, just lets you use 6th more.

Streetsweeper ht. I know a heavier car going 7.teens at 93 with a m6 and 4.10 gear. Same cam was in my stock geared z06 and I loved it.
