Default Got the car dynoed today :(

Well I finally got around to getting on the dyno..mod's are as follow's..T.E.A S2 5.3 liter heads, comp 224/230 .568"/.573" 114 + 2,pulley's,SLP longtubes to ORY pipe,SLP loudmouth, lid, ram air,85mm maf,3200 stall, fernco coupler, ported TB,and other minor stuff..Well since the car wasn't tuned and has no ls6 intake I wasn't expecting too much..but wow I expected more than this! number's are 376.8 RWHP and 367.7 RWT!!..ok so I thought maybe some knock retard or bad air fuel..nope..30 degree's timing with 0 knock..A/F hovered between 13.0 and 12.9..with the ls6 intake on I am guessing 386 hp and 376 tq..why are my number's so low? before all I had was a hot cam and stock head's with longtubes and pulled 356 rwhp and 364 rwt...so S2 head's and a bigger cam gave me 20 hp and 3 lb. ft!? I am very dissapointed to say the least..T.E.A.'s head's looked very nice..perfect short side on intake and exhaust, guide's cut down a tad with nice bowl work..so the heads are cool..but I am gunna try to pull them off and mill them .030 because they arent milled at all right now and throw in an X1 cam and see what happens...the transmission does slip a little bit..but not too much at all...oh well what can you do ya know? Thank's to Mike and gary at norris motor sports for letting me use the dyno on such short notice...tuning won't give me any more power since im at 30 degree's timing with 0 knock and perfect A/F..but I do have the stock 02 Z06 maf and I heard you can tweak those a little...damnit back to the drawing board

Hey
The number's are W/ the converter locked..I am going to give the X1 cam a try..my only problem is i'm a huge nitrous freak..I am planning on spraying 175 or 200 with this cam..and 125 or 150 with the X1 because of it's reverse split...I'm waiting to see how Jason99t/a's car will hold up on a 250 shot with a reverse cam...could be interesting if it hold's..i'm going X1 with a 175 or 200 lol...later,

carter

I gained 59 rwhp with my ls6 intake but that was on a 422. Actually, it was a Holley intake.

Did you post in one of your previous posts that you measured the intake and exhaust lobes on the cam and they were smaller? Something is wrong with your picture.

Hey phillip,
Yes I only measured from base circle to peak lobe though..so all it meant was the new cam has a smaller base circle.I was just freaking out because I wanted everything perfect lol..later,

The 5.3 TEA heads flow real good. I have a set of them with Ferrea 2.02" intake valves and just stock 1.55" exhaust valves. I guess you could say that they are Stage 1.5 or something to that effect. Here is my flow data:

@ .200” 138 121

@ .300” 201 160

@ .400” 251 230

@ .500” 284 260

@ .550” 295 265

@ .600” 300 270

As you can see, the exhaust [really] flows on these heads. I guess the intakes flow fairly close to most other Stage 1 heads, but again, the exhaust really flows exceptionally well.

Anyway, with a TR220 cam, LT headers with cats through the muff, LS6 intake, and an unlocked 2,800 converter, it dyno'd 375 rwhp without any tuning. Now, that was on AMSs dyno. Chris Marsh stated that there dyno is somewhere around 10-15 rwhp lower that most other places (who knows). Hope to dyno about 385-390 after Thunder plays with the PCM. Not bad for an A4 car with a smallish 220 cam.

Anyway, I think all you really need is tuning. Some of the big cam cars really wake-up alot with tuning (more so than the small camned cars)

Again, those TEA heads work well.

BTW, the 5.3L TEA heads will yield about a 10.8 to 1 CR if only surfaced .003" like mine. I would not mill them anymore if you are using pump gas on a daily basis. The reason the CR is below 11 to 1 on TEA's 5.3L heads is because they remove material out of the chambers in order to un-shroud the valves. 10.8 to 1 CR is real nice on a daily driver using your standard pump gas all the time.

Just my opinion
Ron,

Here are my T.E.A stage 2 5.3 flow number's
INT/EXH
.1000-65.8/57.5
.2000-133.1/112.4
.3000-196.4/152.5
.4000-247.5/197.2
.5000-288.1/245.7
.5500-294.2/254.5
.6000-303.4/260.4

The number's look great so the head's arent the problem for sure..maybe i'm just expecting too much though?because if I put the ls6 intake on let's say it add's 10-14 hp..if I got 14 from it that would be 390.8 RWHP...then i'd say a cut-out would be worth another 5 to 7 hp over the loudmouth..that would be 397.8 RWHP...damn I would be happy with that because that is awesome power AND a very N20 friendly cam...hhmmm I need to stop worrying and get a damn ls6 intake and cut-out lol..then on to the 4200 stall and so on thank's for the support guy's..Except PHILL97SVT...dude you seemed pretty cool, but then you gotta throw in some doubt and try to flame on people, not cool man. but to answer your question..I was told the base circle is smaller on my new cam so the actual lobe itself was smaller than my stocker...later,

carter

How do you see that Phil is "flaming" you? Big flow numbers don't mean ****! Everyone wants to buy the biggest flowing heads out there. I have installed over 12 Cartek Head/cam packages from mild to wild and they don't flow stupid numbers but yet make stupid power.

Are you smoking crack? You emailed me and said that you measured the cam lobes and thought something was amiss that the lobes were smaller. If your lobe equate out to a .500 lift than you found your problem. Loosen up. BTW, how is asking if you measured the cam lobe flaming? A low lift cam will cause lower power output compared to a higher lift cam.

The intake will help a bit, I made 14rwhp with mine...
just to give u a comparison:
with my 228/224 .588 .581 114 cam, I made
364 rwhp unlocked
381 rwhp locked
that's with a LS6 intake, ported TB, SY4000, 3.73s, and stock heads....and Edit, of course

Hope this helps some, good luck

-Alex

Hey Phillip,
No bro I was just in a bad mood yesterday,sorry...the peak lobe lift on my new cam "look and measured" smaller than my stock cam..but I didnt even take into account the base circle..the cam was measured with a dial caliper so it freaked me out,but someone pointed out to me that if the base circle is smaller the lobe will meaure smaller in overall ..ONLY with a dial caliper..if it was degree'd than it would be a different story because i would be measuring actuall peak lift..sorry to bust on you bro..just wasn't feeling so hot yesterday lol..later,

carter

What's your rev limiter set to? Were the dynos done at the same shop on the same dynos?
