You do not want to have the intake port smooth as glass, the "roughness" aids in a better mixture for combustion. But, there is some degree of "polish" work done after porting .

We minimal blending when finishing a set of heads. We try to leave as much of the CNC ridges as possible for better air flow.

Huh? You claim to be asking questions already knowing the answers, just so others will benefit?

Oh thank you so much, Chevybayboy! I was just about to polish my intake ports on my heads, but then I searched LS1TECH for polish intake on heads and your thread popped up... now I know that I shouldn't because you posted this question and answer!

And no amount of scrubbing will get rid of it... *shudders*

I've heard that leaving a rough finish is better for the intake side, but does apply to the exhaust side as well?

Personally I don't do many, so time isn't realtime a factor but I like to bring everything up to a mirror finish so I can easily see any imperfections, then when I'm happy with it I knock the intake side back down with 80 grit and exhaust side to 220-320
