Default Engine Knocking! WTF???

I installed an LS6 intake on my car today. When I started it up, the engine started knocking. It literally went from running fine before the swap to immediately knocking right after.

Now, I know what you're thinking. What the hell would swapping an intake have to do with the engine knocking? Well, other than nothing... I'm so freakin puzzled an aggrevated I don't know what to think. WTF!!!

Its been running fine up until this point. Drove it yesterday to get some parts. Fired it up this morning to pull it up on the ramps. Still fine. Fired it up after install... KNOCKING!

I've not been getting on it lately due to needing a new clutch. Hasn't been to the track in over a year. In general, I'm pretty easy on it, overall.

Anyone have any insight??? Or is everyone gonna tell me, "I'm fucked".

TIA

I just want to add that I was there and it started knocking immediatly, so its not like it could have run w/o oil for a few seconds then started knocking, it started the second he fired it up

Could a bolt have been dropped in a port? What is the oil pressure?

Sounds to me like you might be missing a socket.

Oil pressure looked fine. All bolts and tools were accounted for.

At first impression I have to say something fell down a port. I would pull the plugs to look for any sign that something is in the cylinder, if you find nothing then this is a true mystery considering the circumstances.

I agree. Doesn't matter what you think, pull the plugs and see if one of the is showing a problem. Short of that, I dunno what to tell you.

I've been in your situation. You think you did everything correctly but something isn't right. About half the time, I had to eat my words. All we can suggest is to check things over.

These guys are right, something dropped into an intake port and made it past the valve. By now it's imprinted itself on the piston and head.

Well... I'm gonna start tearing into it tonite. Not really sure what the best case scenario is. They all seem to be pretty bad.

Why does the simplest **** always go so wrong?

Pop the intake off and look down the ports, you should be able to see down them pretty good. If its too big to fit through a half inch gap....it may still be in the port and didnt drop into the cylinder.

Did the car have oil pressure when you started it up?

MOBE, yall shoulda just popped the intake right back off then, Took me 9 minutes on the vette last weekend (I was bored, so I timed a head swap). LOL.

If ya need help or whatnot, I may be available. Also, if you bent a valve, I have a totally stock set of heads, and a box of spare valves. You may have bent one valve if a socket or bolt got wedged in there somewhere.

Damn dude, that sucks. I hope it's one of the better scenarios, even though I know they ALL suck!

My hands look like they've been in a meat grinder and I was so aggrevated I didn't have the heart or desire to work on it anymore.

Good to know. I'll give you a shout if I need anything. Thanks.

Well like every one else said ten times something fell in ,but another option is something could have been in the intake (washer ,nut ETC...) and just didn't fall out untill the worst possible moment? Good luck!

You sure it's knocking and not just ticking? I installed an intake once and it started ticking as soon as the install was complete. Turns out that I had not torqued in the correct order and the intake wasn't sealing properly. Might want to check that first.
