Btw Jakefusion that is a misprint. Differential thermal expansion between aluminum and steel causes the p rod to effectively shorten by 0.007" and even customs have more tolerance in them than 0.004".

Havoc40 is on the money.

AHHHHHH!!!! Now I'm starting to get pissed I pulled everything off and it's still doing it. I was convinced it was something to do with the valve train or timing but now I don't know. All the lifters looked great and the cam is brand new. The sound is like this "Tick, tick......... Tick, tick............. Tick, tick.......... Tick, tick" it's very rhythmic but I can't figure out where it's coming from. Im down to the crank and cam being the only 2 things left in the block and it sounds about mid block

see if a rocker arm is hitting a baffle in the valve cover .maybe check all the trunnion bearing to make sure the all fit right.

It's not valve train related like I believed earlier I had it down to the short block earlier and it still made the noise

I wouldn't think so I just had the flywheel surfaced about a week before I think it would have shown up then if it was cracked

Curious if there's any difference in the crank sensors in an iron block and a aluminum block maybe something is hitting there. That's the LAST think I can think off that could make all the symptoms of ticking and misfiring...

No, there is not. But...

There are minor casting differences between an aluminum block and cast iron. Sometimes the crank sensor needs shimmed to keep it off the reluctor.

Well car is back together and starts up and "runs" but not well it doesn't rev and die or any of that but it keeps having huge back fires about every 10 to 15 seconds. Haven't got to check the crank sensor yet but it's still got the tick. Don't know if they're related but its def loading up with fuel on one of the cylinders or something

I'm going to check the sensor tomorrow. Hopefully it's that and that's causing the cylinder to load up with fuel and I don't have a bad injector on top of the tick I already have
